The hot new trend in beach novels? Time travel, and ookily inappropriate relationships, according to a new article by Bloomberg News. Exhibit A is The Little Book by Selden Edwards, the story of an aging rock star who travels back in time and puts his moves on his own grandmother. One minute, Wheeler Burden is in 1988 San Francisco, the next he’s in 1897 Vienna, putting some sweet lovin’ on grandma and hanging out with Freud, Mahler and his own dad (who’s also a time traveler.) The other time-warping beach read? Andrew Davidson’s The Gargoyle, about a man in a burn ward, who meets a woman from the psych ward, who claims they were lovers 700 years ago, when she was a nun.
