Taking on TiVo

Now that cable companies are starting to build digital video recorders into their set-top cable boxes, the New York Times wonders if this really is the beginning of the end for our old friend TiVo. Apparently, TiVo is trying really hard to get the cable companies to offer “premium” versions of their DVRs that will run TiVo’s software. We hope they take TiVo up on the offer, because from what we’ve heard, the boxes being offered by Time Warner right now (like Scientific Atlanta’s Explorer 8000, pictured at right) are buggy and tend to crash a lot.
