Kids ranging from 16-24 years old will get free cellphone service in the UK this summer in exchange for having targeted ads sent directly to their mobiles. The ads will be tailored to their tastes and come via video or text messages from companies like Coca-Cola, L’Oreal, and Buena Vista.

Blyk, the network offering behind the idea, will be the first ad-funded provider when it launches in the UK this summer. If I were a teen, I’d go for it. You’re already being bombarded with ads, so you might as well have them pay your cellphone bill while you’re at it.
