Remember the Lord Howe Island stick insect, that massive “tree lobster” researchers thought had been extinct for decades? Rohan Cleave of the Melbourne Zoo has filmed one of these arthropod giants emerging from an egg. The insect spends six months incubating — when it’s time to leave the egg, the animal literally (and hypnotically) unfolds.
