The Bizarre Christmas Song that Featured a Merry Dalek on Vocals

At the height of Dalekmania, the 1960s British group the Go-Go’s (not those Go-Go’s) released the novelty single “I’m Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek.” This parody of lighthearted Christmas tunes featured lead singer Sue Smith in a childlike lisp and a bandmate delivering the Dalek’s spoken lines in nasal tones. After vanishing into obscurity, the 1964 song resurfaced on the 2000 album Who is Dr. Who.

It’s a weird song to be sure, but also oddly sweet, an uptempo relic from the Dalek craze that swept Britain.
