Smart glasses have enjoyed quite a few rites of passage this year. There’s been widespread backlash and prohibition, Kardashian-adjacent endorsements with glitzy ad campaigns, and Lorde got in on the action to say, “… f*ck the glasses.” Even with all of that, the landmarks aren’t done quite yet—there’s still some juice in the smart glasses going mainstream tank, and this particular flavor of juice is full of garish gold accents.

Like many mobile phones before them, smart glassesRay-Ban Meta AI glasses, in particular—are now getting the treatment from Caviar, a company best known for making prohibitively expensive gold-covered phones that are tacky enough to make Donald Trump’s interior decorator blush. Introducing: a $6,840 pair of Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses called “Odyssey.”

In keeping with other Caviar abominations, the Odyssey smart glasses—which are indeed named after the Greek epic—pull from the same playbook. There’s a lot of 24-karat gold in various locations, like the top of the glasses, the tips of the arms, and accents near the hinges where you’ll find the Caviar name emblazoned. Even the capture button has gold slapped on it, so you can feel extremely fancy while covertly taking pictures of the poor while you’re chauffeured around in your Bentley.

There’s a less expensive silver version that costs $6,130, though I wouldn’t recommend buying that one because all of your far superior rich friends might laugh at you for being cheap. Both pairs come with a genuine alligator skin case, though, so you don’t have to worry about anyone questioning your dominance over the rest of the animal kingdom. Caviar says it’s only making 24 pieces (one for each book of the Odyssey), so if you’re insufferably rich, you better act fast.

For me, arguably the best part of the Odyssey smart glasses is this description from Caviar:

“Odysseus embodies the leader who stays ahead of the curve and turns every journey into a competitive advantage. These glasses are crafted for those whose vision spans continents: entrepreneurs, visionaries, and global pathfinders.”

A beautiful turn of phrase—truly a masterclass in cringey self-seriousness. Bravo, Caviar; like Odysseus himself, your excellence is clearly only outmatched by your lack of self-control. An extravagant way to inadvertently share your nude videos with Meta contractors, indeed!
