Long before there were ever interactive star maps on phones—or even phones for that matter—there were carefully drawn charts. They consisted of simple paper and ink, yet were so beautiful.

This particular chart is considered the “oldest surviving Anglo-American star map” and was drawn by Simeon De Witt in 1780. It is currently being exhibited at the Smithsonian Institute as part of the Albert H. Small Documents Gallery. [Smithsonian via BibliOdyssey]
