When a director bursts onto the scene like Joe Cornish did with Attack the Block, usually that director immediately gets snatched up for another movie. And another. And yet, it’s 2017, and Joe Cornish has yet to direct another movie.
That’s not to say he hasn’t been close or courted. He worked closely with Edgar Wright on Ant-Man, he was in the running for what would become Star Trek Beyond, was supposed to adapt Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash, circled Gambit, and probably a million other things.
Well, add one more to the list—and it sounds like this one is happening. The Playlist was tipped off about the below tweet, which seems to confirm not only Cornish’s new movie, but what it’s about too.
The movie is called A Kid Who Would Be King and, according to Box Office Mojo, Fox will release it on September 28, 2018. Cornish wrote and will direct the film which is “a family fantasy action-adventure movie about a band of young kids embarking on an epic quest to thwart a Medieval menace.”
We saw what Cornish did with a bunch of kids back in 2011, turning one of them into one of the most popular rising stars on the planet. This sounds like it could have a pretty similar theme to that, and that’s fine by us. Anything about kids on an epic adventure just instantly transports us back to Amblin movies of the 1980s.
Neither Cornish’s representatives or Fox had gotten back to us as of publication.
