The Extended Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Will Be R-Rated, Somehow

Apparently, the extra twenty minutes being added to the extended DVD were where all the superviolence and nudity was hiding. Finally, the grim and gritty version of The Hobbit we were all waiting for.

The special edition is slated to be released on November 17th and will have nine hours of behind the scenes footage , twenty additional minutes of footage (bringing the runtime to 164 minutes), and an upgraded rating from PG-13 to R.

It’s pretty obvious that the new rating is going to be based on violence and not, say, a sudden influx of dwarves yelling “fuck” every few minutes. But, still, how violent are those twenty minutes? Or did Jackson go back in and add blood to the old scenes?

Guess I’ll have to wait until November to find out.

Just kidding. You could not pay me to sit through The Hobbit again. Much less an extended version. Life is too short.
