The Great Unbundling has begun. Recode reports Facebook has begun to shut off access to chat within its main app. We've known about Facebook's plan to make everyone use Messenger by disabling chat within the main Facebook app for a while now, but it just started rolling out to people in the U.S.
If you still see that "Nevermind" button when it tries to make you use Messenger instead of Facebook Chat, you're one of the lucky ones.

The main Facebook app will still show people when they have unread messages. It just won't let them read them without downloading Messenger.
We've asked Facebook how long it will take to roll out to everyone and will update if we hear back.
