Waiting for a PC to boot up just so you can listen to a CD or watch a DVD is a bit of hassle, so InterVideo has launched InstantOn PC, a software program which runs on a special stripped-down version of Linux called LinDVD that can start up in ten seconds. You’ll still be able to have Windows on your machine, and all you have to do is flip a switch and reboot the PC under Windows if you want to do something besides watch a movie or listen to music. A couple of PCs running InstantOn PC have already come out in Japan (we’ve mentioned Sharp’s Mebius PC-SV1-7DB and PC-SV1-5CB laptops before), and InterVideo are working with Sharp to bring the first “InstantOn Notebook PC” to the States.
