When we tried out iOS 4.2 Beta 2 on our iPads, we didn't spot anything of interest. But when some European iPad 3G owners took a close look at their settings menus, they saw something very curious: A tethering option.

The option looks like the one we see on our iPhones and was discovered on an iPad 3G running on 3′s network in Europe. We silly AT&T customers don't appear to have the same option in our settings, so we're wondering when and to whom iPad 3G tethering will be available. [9to5Mac]

Isn't the iPad 3G a pay-as-you-go service with no contract?

This could help sell more 3G iPads.

I hate the fact that if I want mobile broadband for once a month, that most carriers need a two year contract at $50-60/month. Very few offer a pay-as-you-go option. The only two I know of is Virgin Mobile, and the iPad 3G service.

I'm not hating it yet, it may have a purpose.
