Final Destination Bloodlines was stuffed full of surprises, giving us a backstory on Death’s carefully plotted trail of destruction throughout the horror series while busting out some of the most gruesome kills ever to grace the screen. But the biggest surprise of all was its towering box-office success—not bad for a part six—until an even bigger one arrived: news that what felt like a definitive finale would be getting another sequel after all.

Such is the way of horror franchises. And today, we know who’ll be helming Final Destination 7, after (surprise, again!) Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein decided not to tackle the follow-up.

Belgian filmmaker Michiel Blanchart will make his English-language debut with the movie, the Hollywood Reporter tells us, noting there was a “brief but intense search” to fill the gig.

The script will be written by Lori Evans Taylor, who co-wrote Bloodlines‘ script and therefore has a good grasp of what makes audiences gasp and peek between their fingers in all the right ways (that MRI scene, dear god); the new Destination will have the same producing team behind it as well, including Spider-Man series veteran Jon Watts.

Speaking of Spider-Man series veterans, THR reports that while Blanchart isn’t yet a household name, his work has attracted some high-profile attention. Sam Raimi is producing an English-language adaptation of Blanchart’s Oscar-shortlisted spooky short You’re Dead, Hélène. Blanchart’s 2024 debut feature, Night Call, was also very well-received, winning the top prizes at Belgium’s equivalent of the Academy Awards.
