Io9 2025 Spoiler warning

The MCU/X-Men

In a recent interview with Nylon, Obsession‘s Inde Navarrette revealed she’s recently met with X-Men director Jake Schreier, noting, “her list of dream directors is even longer: Ryan Coogler, Greta Gerwig, Michael Mann, and Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier, the latter two of whom she’s met with recently.”

Herbert West: ReAnimator

Dread Central reports Joseph Morgan (The Originals, Halo) will star alongside Katie Cassidy (Arrow, Supernatural) in a new film adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft story from director Michael Grossman. Written by Jane Sandberg Wallace, the story is only described as “a modern reincarnation of Dr. West’s devious quest for eternal life set in today’s world.” Morgan will play Dr. Herbert West, while Cassidy will play “his partner,”  Dr. Kate Locke.

V/H/S: SCP

Variety also reports the next installment of the V/H/S franchise will adapt stories and concepts from the popular online horror collective fiction project, the SCP (Secure, Contain, Protect) Foundation. Roy Lee and Steven Schneider from Spooky Pictures will produce, along with Josh Goldbloom and Michael Schreiber from Image Nation Studios.

Evil Dead Burn

In a recent interview with Comic Book, Evil Dead Burn director Sébastien Vanicek discussed his insistence on using deadly on-set fire instead of CG in post-production.

As soon as I knew the title was Burn, I was like, I will need real fire on set because Evil Dead is all about practical effects. It’s not even about respecting the legacy. It’s because that’s why they work so well. Things are done on set and things are real. And even if people are not like, ‘oh, that’s CG,’ right away, they can feel something is a little bit odd or something is less physical. There are a lot of imperfections in reality, and those imperfections are really hard to recreate in CG.

So I wanted all this imperfection. My movie is full of those imperfections. It’s talking about imperfections. So I needed the whole movie to have this camera that is handheld, to have dust and dirt on the camera… That’s how I think the movie is physical and visceral.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

A new featurette for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping discusses Haymitch Abernathy.

Star Trek

During a recent interview with TV Insider (via Screen Rant), William Shatner discussed the possibility of returning to play Captain Kirk in a future Star Trek project.

It’s easy to say money, but you know, the longer I played Kirk, I was allowed to put various shades of character in there. I think Captain Kirk—as the captain of the deadly instrument of war, as well as a ship of peace—could reside in somebody like me very well. I mean, I still have the aggression and the instinct for battle, and I’ve gotten myself into very dangerous things. But there is a planing, a smoothing of all those heights and peaks of attitude and activity that comes with age, as [opposed to] aggression, which is sort of a youthful characteristic. Even at 95, I think Captain Kirk would be a really good captain of a spaceship capable of war and peace.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Meanwhile, actor Dan Jeannotte promised his infamously doomed Star Trek character, Sam Kirk, will survive the events of Strange New Worlds in a recent interview with Trek Movie.

I am in season 4, I’m in season 5, I’m up in it til the end, and it’s been my pleasure but also my curse to be on a show that’s got a dozen incredibly talented and charming actors who are more important than me. And so, you know, I would love to have had more time on there, but there’s just so many great characters, so many great actors to fill up that space. But yeah, I’m still there.

I feel so blessed to be in this whole world, and to be a Kirk is incredible, and it’s really fun to get to play the one that… no one had really created the role before. All I had to do was be better than a corpse. And whereas, like, Paul has a lot to live up to, right? And a lot of expectations to manage. So I just got to have free rein. It was wonderful.
