The Rebellion Rises In the First Trailer For Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

This will be a day long remembered. Here it is, after months and months of staring at the same picture of Felicity Jones and her band of troops, it’s finally here: the blistering first footage from a whole new chapter in the Star Wars saga. Take a look!

We get a surprisingly meaty look at the movie here. We’re introduced to Felicity Jones’s hero, and it’s hard to figure out how her name is spelled, but it seems something like “Jynn Ersa”? EDIT: Felicity Jones’ character has been confirmed as Jyn Erso! Either way, she is perhaps not so prim and proper as her Rebel allies, especially Mon Mothma (hey it’s Mon Mothma!) would like her to be. “This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.” is her response. Fair enough.

It’s the sort of attitude the Rebels need, with the Death Star looming above their heads. We get to see the Empire at its full strength, Stormtroopers (including some new designs!) patrolling the streets, AT-AT walkers blasting away at incoming rebels, and even a sinister new villain. And of course, we get to see some of the ragtag rogues that will join Jyn on this most dangerous of missions: find the plans for the Death Star, or die trying.

With The Force Awakens bringing a renewed sense of excitement about the Star Wars galaxy again, Rogue One has a hell of a task ahead of it to continue that excitement. Let’s hope it can live up to the hype—it’s certainly looking cool so far.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters December 18th.

Looks great!! Who is Mr Fancy Cloak?! Him striding across battlefield getting his Fancy Cloak all dirty makes me think he is going to be a very hands on villain and a threat beyond just giving orders. My first thought was Tarkin but looks different so I dunno.

Also Imperial Guard! Be great if we get to see them do something for first time! And is that Vader? Given the context of era and setting I would say yes but the silhouette looks wrong to me? Maybe I just don’t see him from the back much.
