These days, you can’t go three clicks on the internet without finding cat pictures, pornography, or a new project for Dwayne Johnson. Now, a new one has been added to the overflowing mountain of movies. It’s called Son of Shaolin, based on a yet-to-be-published graphic novel.

According to Deadline, Johnson’s production company has acquired the rights to the project, which is described as “a contemporary Kung-Fu story that intertwines Shaolin mythology with many of the current issues faced by teens growing up in a gentrifying neighborhood like Harlem.” It’s by Jay Longino, who’ll also adapt the screenplay. And while Johnson is currently NOT attached to star in the project, Deadline says it’s always a possibility.

Also buried in the piece is this fascinating nugget:

There are persistent rumors Universal wants him howling at the moon when it gets around to the Wolf Man movie that is part of its classic monsters franchise revival plans.

Now that’s something. We know Universal has been quietly working behind the scenes on their larger Universal Monsters universe, which kicks off next year with Tom Cruise’s The Mummy. Several major stars, such as Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, have been rumored as part of the discussions, but this is the first we’ve heard of Johnson’s potential involvement.
