The Winds Of Winter Will Not Blow in 2015

In an announcement that may temper your excitement from the new Game of Thrones season 5 trailer released earlier, HarperCollins has confirmed that the sixth book in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series will not be published in 2015. Which is kind of funny, because it blows.

Immediately moving past the inevitable "WRITE LIKE THE WIND" backlash and "GRRM IS NOT YOUR BITCH" backlash backlash, I'm actually glad to know this now, in January, rather than wonder if the book could be coming any moment for the rest of the year. Now that I know, I don't need to wonder about it, and I can concentrate on things that make me happy, like On the Road with Tyrion and Varys.

Honestly, I think it's better if GRRM takes his time and writes the ending he wants to write. As many years, and as many books, as it takes for him to sew it all up to his own satisfaction. The main thing is that he (and we) have to let go of the idea the HBO series is going to wait for him to write the ending on paper first. That boat has clearly sailed, and it's fine. HBO can have its ending, and then at some point, we'll read GRRM's version and it'll still be a cool surprise.
