There is no snarking about books like Algis Budrys snarking about books

Algis Budrys was a terrific SF author, and a fantastic editor — but he was also a stupendously entertaining critic, whose book reviews ran in Galaxy Magazine and The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. His motto was: "Criticism is not subject to the democratic process," and he managed to make a book review column as popular as the short stories it ran alongside.

And now, the indispensible Dave Langford with Ansible Editions is publishing the first of a planned three-volume collection of Budrys' book columns from F&SF: Benchmarks Continued: F&SF "Books" Columns 1975-1982. (The Galaxy Magazine columns are already available in a book called Benchmarks, hence Benchmarks Continued.) The first volume is available for order here. (And here's your reminder to subscribe to Ansible, Langford's free monthly email newsletter.)
