The Leafy Sea Dragon (Phycodurus eques) is a real fish, a relative of the sea horse with appendages that look like seaweed. Here, artist Piper Thibodeau imagines fanciful versions of sea dragons that grow terrestrial foliage, giving them a different tree-inspired look for each season.
Thibodeau is a freelance character designer and concept artist, and for more than 1,000 days, she’s been creating a painting a day. These include everything from anthropomorphic food to huggable monsters to dinosaurs dressed for the winter. (I’m particularly partial to her Pinata Dinos, which was prominently featured on reddit’s r/ImaginaryAww subreddit recently.)
You can see more of Thibodeau’s work on Deviant Art and support her endeavors on Patreon.
