Few murderers have sliced their way into our hearts like the Bride from Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. Fans of hers, and the film, are going to love this new poster from 23-year-old English artist Karl Fitzgerald.
It’s called They Belong To Me Now, and will be available from Cult Classic Prints starting at 2pm EST today. There’s a regular and a bloody variant, obviously. The regular is a timed edition until Friday, with a max of 125 pieces. And the variant is a run of 65. Here they are.
Fitzgerald, who is new to the world of screenprinting, explained he had a very specific vision for the piece. “By letting the light create atmosphere, keeping the detail loose and building up the textures, I could keep the image simple in composition and focus on tone and mood,” he said.
And though there’s a lot of pop culture art out there based on Kill Bill, Fitzgerald said he didn’t look to put his own spin on it.
“I looked instead to artists such as Frank Frazetta for inspiration with his perfect, simplistic compositions, and Adrian Smith with his dark, atmospheric lighting,” Fitzgerald said. “It was of course important to capture the style and look of the film, yet put my own spin on it, to make something fresh. That’s what I love about the alternate movie posters. Taking something classic and familiar and seeing it in a new light.”
