We're still grieving for the loss of Maurice Sendak, creator of Where The Wild Things Are. And last night, Stephen Colbert featured some brilliant extended excerpts from his Sendak interview from earlier this year.

Including Sendak saying he has no clue what a children's book is — and explaining why his books don't sugarcoat childhood. "I think childhood is a period of great torment. We learn all these things — what is and what isn't, what you can do and what you can't do, and it's really very hard." And the best thing you can do is, "love him or her," and "take them for what they are." Really beautiful stuff. [via Explore]
