Verizon's Got a Hot Double Data Special

Starting Tuesday, November 8th, and for a limited time, Verizon is giving you the old two-for-one on data. Buy the 2GB plan for $30, you get 4GB. Get the 5GB plan for $50, you get 10GB. Dope on a rope.

This sweet little deal is for new customers as well as existing customers who have Verizon's 4G data plans. Existing customers will have to request the change via customer service or through their My Verizon accounts online. Is this as good as Sprint's unlimited data for $10 a month? I'm going to go ahead and say no, however Verizon easily has the best/fastest/biggest 4G LTE network out there, which might just make it win out. We don't know how long this deal is going to last, so jump on it.

Update: It would seem that there's a little confusion over how this special offer works. Here's a little clarification, directly from Big Red:

- all new customers who purchase a 4G smartphone are eligible for the double data plans
- existing customers who have upgraded their service or purchased a 4G smartphone within the last 14 days will be eligible for the double data plans.
- once a customer has the plan, they keep the plan as long as they are on a 4G smartphone. The limited time promotion applies to how long we will sell the plan, not how long customers get to use the plans.
- customers can begin buying the plans today.

This can't be permanent, otherwise they would only offer it to new customers. If is is permanent, then it's not a promotion, it's just a plan change.

So the question is, how long with the double data deal last?

If it is permanent, I'll need to find some way to get it for my iPhone. I'm still under 2 weeks on the contract, so I can cancel and hopefully find a way back in with the double data.
