Walking Inside This Crystal Universe Is Like Wandering the Universe

I want to step inside the Crystal Universe installation by TeamLab and just never leave. It’s an immersive art exhibit that’s been around various museums and galleries already and it’s currently in Tokyo (which means I probably won’t get a chance to step in just yet but it’s okay, after watching this video, it’s all I can see when I close my eyes). I imagine it’d be a good way to disappear from this world for a little bit and just have our senses and thoughts blown off by the glimmering lights.

TeamLab writes:

This artwork uses accumulated light points to create a sculptural body, similar to the way distinct dots of color form an image in a pointillist painting. In Crystal Universe, the particles of light are digitally controlled, and change based on the viewer’s interactivity with the work. The result is an installation consisting of an accumulation of lights, forming a sculpture that expresses the universe.

There’s been a lot of immersive art exhibits in recent years—the Rain Room and Infinity Mirrored Room come to mind—and their overpowering effect have been numbed a bit by all the social media plastering but they’re still good fun if you want to just disappear into another world. Sadly, you have to leave.
