Walking Three Miles in Blacked Out New York City Is Pretty Scary

Lower Manhattan in New York City is still mostly without power which means when night hits, it’s complete darkness. No street lights, no building lights, no lights at all. Joe Sabia wanted to see what it was like so he took a camera and walked three miles.

He went from Mulberry Street to Grand Central at night right after Hurricane Sandy hit and everything south of 38th street was dark. Here’s what he found:

1) People used pay phones.

2) Lone cops would stand on corners keeping an eye out on things.

3) A few bars would have candle-lit drinking hours. Which reminded me of NYC in the 1700s, if I was alive then
