What you want

By

Reading time 6 minutes

A few days ago we asked Gizmodo readers to tell us what gadgets they most wanted to receive this year, which ones they were planning to give as gifts, etc. and as promised, we’re posting up what we got. Thanks to everyone who shared their lists with us; if you didn’t end up getting what you wanted this year, just remember that whatever you would have gotten would have been obsolete in six months anyway.

Serge:

1. A brand spanking new Apple G5

2. Crestron home remote control system (this would be sick!!!!)

3. Canon 10D SLR Camera

4. A Canon wide angle lens for the 10D Camera

5. Canon Dye-Sublimation photo printer

Jeff Chiusano: “PGA Tour Championship Edition full-size arcade game, Kaleidescape DVD Movie Server, Escient FireBall DVDM-100 and 2 Sony DVP-CX777ES DVD changers (a more affordable alternative to the Kaleidescape system). After all, it is a “wish” list, isn’t it? ;-)”

Paul Guay: “I wish Canada would have the Motorola MPx-200 available and I could open that up for Christmas. Maybe next year!”

Marc: “I bought a Sony Ericsson T630 phone. Had it sent in from HongKong, because I couldn t wait to have it.”

KP:

I couldn’t wait for…

– T-Mobile to start carrying the Sony Ericsson Z600 and went ahead and bought it for myself from gsmphonesource.com. It is likely going to be the best gift I could get this christmas.

I Want…

– iTunes Music Store Gift Certificates. Sure, I could spend the time and effort downloading stuff from the P2P world, but i’m getting tired of all of the effort.

I really want (but would be a cold day in hell if anyone could afford it for me for xmas)…

– the new Pioneer DVD Recorder with TiVo. My TiVo Series 1 is feeling like a record player to me right now…. classic but dated. If I win the lottery (just bought a MegaMillions ticket), I’ll buy one for myself and one for you guys…

I’m giving…

– g4 iBook to my best friend as she starts her own message therapy business.

– iSight camera to another friend after being very impressed at apple’s iChat application

– iPod… seriously, the best gift… significant but affordable, and almost everyone could use one.

I’m wishing these items existed so I could get—— er.. give them…

– an iPod dock in my car, just a place i could “ca-chunk!” my iPod in and have it accessible through my car stereo while it charged as well. then eject it when i get out of the car.

Eric Smith: “iPod Treo 600” [repeated about fifty times].

Yin H.: “Pentax Optio S4, Archos AV340, Samsung DVD-L100, Samsung ITCAM-9, NEC 525 [cellphone], iPAQ 4155, the Ambient Orb.”

Huphtur: The Toyota Prius

Leareth:

Had to Have and Bought:

Dell 20 GB Digital Jukebox, Shure E2c Sound Isolating Headphones, Red Chair Dudebox Explorer for the Dell DJ.

Under The Tree (for my wife):

Shooting Digital by Mikkal Aaland, a Canon A300 Digital camera with 512mb Flash Card, and Motion Computing M1300 TabletPC (If it arrives in time.)

Under the Tree (For my Father):

ARCLight LED AAA Flashlight, LaCie 120GB Firewire HD for his DV projects.

Hoping is under the tree for me (but not holding my breath):

Canon EOS 300D Digital SLR, and although it’s not technically a gizmo the Lego Imperial Star destroyer. I intend to glue it together permanently and light it with LED doesn’t that make it a Gizmo then?

Unmute: “I bought a Rio Karma and I am very pleased with it. I read the archives on how it is not an iPod-killer, based solely on thickness. open sourcers and audiophiles are drooling over the Ogg Vorbis and FLAC playback capability. As for me, i just wanted big data in a small package so i can go to the gym with it and work off the impending holiday weight gain.

Kaufman Ng: Treo 600

DVD burner

Mirra personal server

rgRR: a Treo 600

an unlock code for that Treo 600 to use with my current T-Mo service

Brad Herman:

Things I would love to get this season:

Roomba

Treo 600 w/ Unlimited Tmobile Data

Ambient Orb Device

ThinkGeek Tank

Alta Intake for my MINI Cooper S

Mario Kart: Double Dash

Green Laser Pointer

Night Vision Goggles

USB Memory Watch

Panuzzi: “The List… heh… ‘only’ a Toshiba 3gHz 17″ widescreeen laptop 🙂 hopefully.”

Ben Rosenthal:

ShedRain WindPro Auto Jumbo Compact umbrella (from eBags.com) – $39

Powerball Gyroscope (from ThinkGeek.com) – $35 [for upper body strengthening]

Motorola FreeCharge for T720 (from AWSwireless.com) – $50

Grokker 2.0 for Mac OS X (from Groxis.com) – $100

iLove t-shirt [XL, Grey] (from CafePress.com, Traitor Records > Emilie Autumn) – $16

Spirit Demerson: “Give me the Sanyo VM4500 (hate the color, though), and the RCA Lyra AV jukebox RD2780 and I’m happy.”

Peter Lansky: “This is obvious, but I just want an iPod so damn bad. I would be able to fill a 40 GB one no problem. They’re so expensive. It’s tearing me up inside.”

zOOM: “A Treo 600 and an Apple iBook.”

Jeff Gates:

My friends raised their eyebrows when I said I was buying a Photo Printer for my wife. “For your wife?? Yeah, right.” But it was true. After years of compiling digital photographs Wife and Grandma wanted to know when we could get some of these printed. Apparently, a jpg does not look good in a frame.

So I did some research and after seeing the amazing quality of the HP Photosmart 7960 (making sure that it would work with OS X) I bought it. Couldn’t hide the fact that it was being delivered by FedEx, nor what it was as the reseller refused to wrap the outside of the package. So last week I set it up and Grandma is anxiously awaiting her 8×10 glossies on Xmas morn.

Antti Rasinen:

Gizmodo asked about Xmas gadgets. Personally I’m not buying any for my family (alas, I’m living on a student budget), nor I am expecting anything.

The reason is that I already have my presents. With some financial help from my parents, I bough myself Canon 300D (AKA Digital Rebel), which I received less than a week ago.

In addition to that, I bought also Shure E2 in-ear headphones to go with my iPod. They have excellent sound isolation, which makes even long bus/train trips very pleasant.

That’s my list. Merry Xmas and a happy New Year!

Don Drake: “I want a P900. No, I really do. Last year was the Year of the Tivo. I bought it for my parents, and they love it. That’s a hard one to follow-up on. I’ll buy my P900 next year when prices will drop a little more.”

Razvan Dragomirescu: “Garmin Rino 120 – nice GPS + walkie-talkie, not exactly legal in Europe but what the heck… it’s cool. 40 Gb iPod – always wanted one, I’ll probably end up buying one for myself:) URU: Ages Beyond Myst (game from Ubisoft) – I’m a big fan of the Myst series.”

Jacek: “The gizmo I would like to have: you just connect it to ethernet and then you can stream video or publish webcam on the web. NO COMPUTER IS NEEDED. I just have read review of it in british magazine and it looks like superb gizmo!!!! I don’t know where to buy it, but I am searching… and I will get it…

Andrew Brush: “A keyboard for my Dell Axim X3i.”

Randy Dommer: “I’m currently visiting Korea for the holidays and couldn’t wait to pick a Sony DSC-T1 digital camera. I traded in my Casio Exilim S2 as soon as I saw this beauty. I’ll be in Japan next week, and Akihabara is definately on my list of places to go. Needless to say, this holiday I will be recieving many awsome new gadgets.”

Neil Enns: “Aside from my car working again, I want a Canon ST-E2 Speedlite Transmitter. It’ll finally let me use my flash off-camera.”

A.N. Varady: “Xact WristLinx two way radio wristwatches for Mom and Dad, to get them

to quit yelling around the house for each other. TDK Mojo 1 headphone/mp3 player for me, for passing my grad school

classes this term. Neuros 128MB Ogg/MP3player for my girlfriend, who was sweating for some hackable Ogg playing, FM recording hardware.”

Martyn Wilkinson: “Although I’m actually buying these to replace items which I was forced to leave at the airport on a recent business trip (airport security—grrrrr!) rather than as new Xmas treats, I’d thoroughly recommend the Victorinox Cyber Tool Swiss Army Knife and the Victorinox Swiss Card. My Swiss Card travels everywhere with me in my wallet and the Cyber Tool is always in my briefcase.”

Christoph Shipley: A Tapwave Zodiac and a 512 MB SD card. I already bought myself a 250 GB SATA hard drive. I might have enough cash after the holidays to buy a DVD+/-RW drive.

James Shepard:

I am an airline pilot and regularly end up travelling in the passenger cabin.

I am hoping Santa will bring me some Sennheiser PXC 250 Active Noise

Reduction headphones which, like the much more expensive Bose cans, reduce external noise by 25dB! It means you can enjoy the music from your iPod or the movie soundtrack and actually hear it, without it being drowned out by wind noise in the cabin.

If you are a regular traveller or know someone who is these should definitely be on their Christmas list. Available in the UK for 66 (about $100).
