Mistake-makers, rejoice. After years of choosing between deleting an entire photo and report it or living with the typos and ill-conceived jokes of the original, Instagram has decided to allow us to edit our captions after they’ve been published.

In a blog post this afternoon, Instagram’s staff described the feature as “one of the top requests that we’ve heard from the community.” It long seemed that the draconian functionality—or lack of it—was aimed at keeping Instagram’s UI simple and its users honest. But if you install the new update, you’ll now see an Edit option alongside delete and share.

Alongside this small-but-major update, Instagram has expanded its Explore page, adding a new tab called People next to the familiar Photos page. It seems like a way for the app to promote specific users—and, in all likelihood, expand its sponsored content. You can download the iOS update through the Apple Store, though it seems the update it not yet live on Google Play. [Instagram Blog]
