We’re coming up on the 7th anniversary of the star-studded, horror comedy Zombieland. That also means we’re coming up on the 7th anniversary of talk about a sequel. However, now that the original film’s writers have a new monster hit movie under their belt, they’re back at it.
On the AMC show Geeking Out, Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (who also wrote a little film called Deadpool this year) revealed they’re currently writing the film now.
“That is breaking news that we’re on Zombieland 2 right now,” the writers said on the show. “We’re sitting with Woody [Harrelson] tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited.” (By the way, “tomorrow” has probably already happened, as the show is not live.)
Earlier this year, the logo for Zombieland 2 was in a presentation of upcoming titles given by Sony Pictures at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, so we kind of knew the film was still out there in the ether. Plus, there had been news of other writers taking a stab at the film over the past few years. But if Wernick and Reese are working on the film now, it means two things. 1) This film is more than likely going to happen if they can get the cast back together and 2) Deadpool 2 is already complete.
