Humble Best Buy insider Derek sent this bit of info on the December 18th Xbox 360 mania at Best Buy:
As a Best Buy employee, I’ve been informed that we will in fact *have* to have the Xbox 360’s opening morning of the 18th because they will be running in the Sunday ad that comes out on the 18th. They’ve told stores not to open early and definitely not to do a Midnight release but the reason the initial hard bundling was happening is because corporate passed down a memo from on high saying stores that did the best selling accessories, would get more units. As an aside, I’ve done my best to anonymously pass the word to people to be there as early as possible Sunday morning. Employees at my store will be there as early as 4am preparing for this “re-release”.
