We already know that Creative's upgraded Xdock is the first iPod dock that allows users to upconvert their video to HD resolution and music to X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity, as well as one of the first docks to work with new iPods —and a hands on has revealed that it does this job quite well. We also felt that the addition of a navigation menu was a nice upgrade over the previous version. However, there were a few caveats.

The problem is that the device we viewed was a prototype. At this point, the Xdock HD can only upconvert to 720p and it is not currently compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch. However, they are fairly confident that all of this will be remedied in time to meet the Spring 08 launch. So the pressure is on. Plus, $399 is a fairly steep price to pay given the fact that there are cheaper alternatives out there.

Apple TV is a much better option, even in its current configuration.
I just can't see the point in trying to upscale something that was ripped for an iPod to watch on a HDTV. it's like upscaling a postage stamp to the size of a poster. It just won't look good.
@Galley: Pretty much. I don't see how anyone who has a problem with the AppleTV see much benefit in this.
You can get a Divx capable 1080p DVD upscaling player for under 100 bucks...so I'm gonna pass on this one.
Like the other commenter, I don't see how this device will compete with other device as a media extender. Couldn't someone just use a 360 and stream the full versions of their divx files directly to a HDTV and ditch the iPod middleman?
@DeeJayQueue:
Uh, you know that they're upscaling from the same res that a regular upscaling DVD player upscales from, right? (I sure just said "upscale" a lot." The iPhone's video output is about the same res as an SDTV.
