9to5 Mac is reporting that Apple will have yet another event on February 26 in order to launch the iPhone and iPod Touch SDK, which will have native apps that reportedly offer Exchange and Lotus Notes support. And the best part is that updated MacBook Pros with Penryn and possibly the MacBook Air trackpad could also debut there.
Apparently the date was finalized after Apple pulled out of the National Association of Broadcasters show, which means they might save the Final Cut Pro server announcement (if there is one) for the Feb 26 event as well. Remember, no one can confirm what Apple's announcing until they announce it, but this is what we know so far. [9to5Mac]

We want a 3G iPhone!
If they bring all of the design cues of the standard Macbook (user-replaceable HDD and mag-lid), then I'm sold on the MBP.
Wow, Exchange support, that's huge. (<-- serious)
I hope there will be more free apps.
@SchruteBuck: Yea, start shorting RIMM stock. We all knew this day was coming.
I've said it once...ermm...a dozen times and yet again I say on FEB 26th it will be the MACTOUCH FTW!!!!!! :D
3G iPhone would be great. But when the hell are they going to release the iphone in Canada.
@SchruteBuck:
Anything to stop the incessant whining from MS Whores on this site!
@Noobs-R-Us: I'm not ready to give up my Blackberry just yet, but this thing is really coming along.
Does anybody else find that (because of Apple) their life is now spent either 1) anxiously anticipating or 2) woefully disappointed.
I only want a 3G iphone if the data is $20 a month. $60 a month is a deal killer for me.
I would rather have GPS with built in maps and no monthly fee. This, I would pay double for even with edge.
9to5 Mac is reporting that Apple will have yet another event on February 26
What, you mean in addition to the already bi-weekly Apple "launch" events? Yeeeesh. How bout you pace yourself Apple. At some point in the near future we will see the following headlines.
"Apple announces: Jobs eats sandwich!"
"Apple announces: Unicorns!"
"Apple feature: Let's just get together and watch Season 1 of heroes on my macbook, kay?"
"Macbooks announces: future of announcements to be announced following this latest announcement!"
@Kaiser-Machead: I'm still hoping for a 13" MBpro. Even if it is a hopeless situation.
Still, a redesigned, better cooled, user-servicable MBpro 15" would be very, very tempting.
Otherwise I'll get a white "MacBook Teh Snappy",
meaning 4GB RAM and 320GB HDD (self upgraded of course).
@SchruteBuck: That's why it's called the crackberry.
The only competitive advantage it has left is the keyboard. I expect Apple to take up to 50% of RIMMs market share overtime. A very short time!
Exchange support, Exchange support, Exchange support... Oh geeze, please be true.
@mangochutney: I could sure go for one myself. Unfortunately, the gap between the standard Macbook and the Macbook pro is not as wide as the iBook from the Powerbook, and now the Macbook has some notable design advantages over the now aging powerbook case design of the MBP, so I don't suppose that will happen anytime soon.
@Noobs-R-Us: But I loves me some keyboard. I have to try the iPhone touchscreen one and see what it's like.
The iPhones on-screen keyboard only took me a few hours to get used too.. afterwards, i was a comfortable and speedy typer.
@mangochutney: meeeeee to.
12" even.
@Noobs-R-Us: I think it's every other company that has to continue to worry.
Even the tightest markets tend to have room for two.
/Not selling (or shorting) my RIMM stock yet.
@SchruteBuck: fanboyism aside, IMO it is ok. I don't have my touch yet, but I use one at work daily. You get use to not having any physical feedback. As well as the intelligent-schmintelligent typing software.
@Pope John Peeps II: Apple Unicorns? Whooo!!!! I'd buy one of those XD
FUD!!!
@yoshi: It can't be released on that date, but they might use such an event to announce it's pending release (after the FCC okays it).
I think it took 6 weeks last time. Surely it will drastically hamper sales of the current model to pre-announce it but they have no choice.
@bobdobbs: Scratch the parenthetical, and it's still accurate.
@92BuickLeSabre: I'm also addicted to the thumb trackball, so I think your stock is safe.
@Kaiser-Machead: You're probably right. We'll see. That's why the new MBP has to provide some major improvements over the current design (points noted above) to make me spend the money.
I don't do games alot, at least not anymore. The MB would do, but aluminium is so beautiful...
@Leonard Nimrod:
At least we know AT&T is building out it's 3G wireless network to support "3G" phones.
Let's hope Stephenson was correct in saying consumers will be getting a 3G iPhone this year.
apple please don't ruin the MBP by fitting it with the lego keyboard. it looks and feels cheap not to mention black and silver clashes.
@yoshi: Steve Jobs did say that there would be one in 2008. Though, he also said in 2006 that Apple wasn't working on an iPod phone. :-\
@chinkbastard: Surely, it's a personal preference, but the feel and usability of the MacBook's "chicklet" keyboard is great.
3G + exchange support= I buy the second its available.
@92BuickLeSabre:
yeah, RIM will be fine, they make great products and are entrenched in the business sector for the foreseeable future.
All the other players are screwed. Symbian never took off in America, and with the market getting even more competitive, I doubt it ever will. Palm has been slowly dying for some time. Windows mobile made it by as the only US 3rd party smartphone OS for some time, but it sucks and will continue to suck for at least two more years. By that time Android will enter the market and become the 3rd party OS of choice, but this won't help either samsung or motorola gain share over apple and rim, because 3rd party os's don't really belong in the phone market. Unlike the pc industry, where all imput devices are essentially standardized, the phone market is hopelessly unstandardized. Having a unified os doesn't help developers very much when they still need to rewrite their apps to accommodate the hugely different hardware features of every major phone. By tying the hardware and software together in as a single platform, RIM and Apple have an unbeatable advantage over everyone else.
I agree that some form of enhanced Exchange support would be huge!
Also 10.5.2 [maybe]
There is no way 3G is happening this soon. They are not going to release a 16GB iPhone one week and then replace it with a 3G model two weeks later...that would be very stupid.
whatever happened to the Apple Displays? Are they ever going to bring those back, with maybe a built in iSight. Would love to hook up my iBook or Mac Mini to one.
@Uncle Jerry: Exactly what I was thinking. They are in dire need of an update.
When can I get a percentage button on the calculator...Jeesh! Someone SDK that little thing in for me...mmmmmkay!?!?
@Uncle Jerry:
I don't think apple wants to compete in the display market anymore. There's not much that they can do to differentiate themselves, and margins are razor thin. I think they are happy enough just selling cinema displays to idiots who want to color coordinate with their Mac Pro.
So... no word on a new iMac i guess? I mean i know the Apple Event didn't happen yet but I guess i may as well pick on up today then. :-/
@labrats5:
then I wish they would bring back a standalone iSight.
not only 3g on the iphone, but how about wpa2-enterprise encryption support for the wifi? not like it's hard to add it for godsakes, and it's a stupid thing not to have these days.
@SchruteBuck: Trackball? Man, that's old school! Have you not used the Apple finger flick and scroll? It's devine! once you use it you'll want to rip out that Trackball like Oedipus ripped out his eyes!
@92BuickLeSabre: Hey, it's your funeral....
@labrats5: "yeah, RIM will be fine, they make great products and are entrenched in the business sector for the foreseeable future."
Famous last words. Your last name isn't Custer is it?
for me the deal killer on the iphone is being stuck on at&t's network. around here, it's teh suck. no gsm phone I've ever tried works in my phone closet - only verizon's cdma. so when troubleshooting the pbx...
yes the exchange integration would be nice, but only matters to me when I can get a verizon flavor.
