LEGO Factory Space Revives Most Loved Theme, Going Pew Pew Soon

We knew LEGO Space, one of the most loved LEGO lines in history, was going to be revived. Now we have nine official photos and full details of the new LEGO Factory Space. Created by two US LEGO masters, they will be launched on April 16 with two sets ready to battle, one with baddy Space Skull minifig and the other with Star Justice. We are missing Space Tonto and Space Girl, but hopefully this will grow into a full-blown theme soon.

LEGO Factory Space is lifting off soon!

Are you a Space Skull or a Star Justice?

2 sets launching on April 16:

10191 Star Justice
10192 Space Skulls

Both retail for $99.99 USD, available at www.LEGO.com or through LEGO Stores.

Space Skulls (designed by LEGO fan Mark Sandlin from Georgia)
- Skullfighter features opening cockpit, freem blasters and fuel cells
- Skullbot features freem blaster and grasping claw
- Skullmecha features heavy freem cannons and missiles
- Skullmecha has 12 mobile arms and is the chosen vehicle of the Space Skull Commander
- Hover skull transport features dual frap cannons and troop transport area

Star Justice (designed by LEGO fan Chris Giddens from Georgia)
- Cosmic Peace Keeper and Hypersled have sliding landing gear
- Mobile Cargo Transport has eight wheels with suspension and carries equipment over any terrain
- Star Outpost 7 has storage and reloading place for the energy units
- Four Justice bots with scanner-tool
- Cosmic Peace Keeper has a sliding cockpit

I like the space station a lot. Now, I hope they revive the mini Star Wars line and I will be a happy minifig. [LEGO in Gizmodo]

  • i need to have kids immediately!

    @pferde_schwanz: Just get them for yourself. You only live once.

    I only just last week made a passable Eagle from Space 1999 that I always wanted to make as a kid.
    (It took decades to figure out that it was easy if I just changed the scale a little. -duh!)

    I would buy these with no other purpose than to fuel my collection of pieces.
    (All sets do get built at least once, just the Star Wars stuff stays built!)

  • @pferde_schwanz: Having kids just decreases the funds available to buy Legos.

  • I find this a stretch for a gadget blog....BUT if this article wasn't here I would be pissed! Keep up the Lego reporting.

    Maybe we need to start a support group to make playing with Lego's acceptable for people between 24-34....

  • I want them to bring back Ice Plaent 2012. THAT was the shizznit.

  • They look ridiculously pricey for their size, even for Lego. I guess these are "designer" sets not for the TRU-shopping mass market.

  • @strider_mt2k: @TommySez: interesting suggestions. i will examine them thoroughly.

  • @@werk:

    Ahhhhhem. Let's just say 24-??

    I also believe that Hardees is about to start up their logo infringement suite against Star Justice as well.

  • 'Freem' is stolen from TSOALR isn't it? And if anyone catches that reference, then yes, I know I'm a huge geek.

  • "...baddy Space Skull minifig and the other with Star Justice. We are missing Space Tonto and Space Girl, but hopefully this will grow into a full-blown theme soon."

    Yeah, cause I'm pretty sure in the current political climate having the 'bad guys' named the "BLACKtron" like in the days of yore (aka the 80's) is probably out.

    It's funny, looking back at media from the 80's and even the early 90's I'm amazed that some of it ever saw the light of day...

    @pferde_schwanz: Call it therapy if you want.
    A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.

    Another good thing is find someone who has 'em and ask to borrow them for the weekend.
    Make a little time to play and you'll know if you're into it by your first bathroom break. ;)

  • I want that Lego designing software I see in that screenshot.

  • I haven't had a space set since the early 90s...next time I go to my parent's house, I'm bringing some of my Legos back. I think I have enough to built some kind of catapult (or 3) and we can have ourselves a war among the space guys, police, race car drivers, and Octan employees.

    @pferde_schwanz: With a name like that, you'd think all the ladies would be flocking to get a piece!

  • @pferde_schwanz: I suggest you look into renting a pair. Some people will even pay you for that.

    Or you could become the creepy guy in the neighborhood that invites children to his house to play with his toys.

  • Can any of these be sent on a one way mission to Mars?

  • @easy2panic: Go Get it! It's free at the LEGO web site and good on PC or Mac platforms. It's also HIGHLY crack like.

  • The minifigs with the pornstaches are so freakin' cooler than me.

  • The Star Justice guy looks like a pedophile with that facial hair...it screams "want some candy? then get in the van!"

    Space Skull FTW!

  • to the posters... what is your favorite set?

    mine has to be the old school castle system. i don't really like the newer dragon or the knights system.

  • Still waiting for a Falcon update. I guess Jesus doesn't care.

  • @freakshow1:

    Yeah no sh#t. Sorry, no sh#t to the no falcon update, not to the fact that Jesus doesnt care. He cares.

    He'll be getting on the Falcon update ASAP. Right? Please say its so..........

  • Favorite set - too hard to pick, so all of them.

    Even the big plastic tub I got at a container auction for a buck.

  • Is there a Millenium Falcon update from Jesus on the way?

  • First off, why are they fighting in the first place? Can't the guy mine if he has the appropriate permits? Just because he doesn't have flesh on his head doesn't make him evil. Skeletor has other reasons for being evil.

    As for favorite sets I would have to go with pirates. With the growing popularity of pirates in media and IT (See pirates v. ninjas) I'm surprised they don't bring back the large schooner sets. Plus my wife loves pirates and I could dig getting her a pirate ship; I would get to put it together ;)

    @auslander: Something about an expired coupon I think...

    I was just looking on ebay to see what kind of LEGO is available.

    It looks like one can get some stuff on there pretty darn cheap, but the used stuff I'd run through the dishwasher first. ;)

  • Seeing a lego man with a skull makes me think a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Lego series would be really cool. Maybe for when the new movie comes out?

  • @auslander:
    "Skeletor has other reasons for being evil"

    Yep. He sure does:

    That and the fact that Beastman never looks him in the eye when they make sweet, sweet, boney, beasty love.

  • When I was a kid all we had was 2,4,6, and 8-nub bricks of 3 colors...and we LIKED it!

  • 1. There will be at least 2 more SW mini sets this year.

    2. There are support groups for AFOLs (Adult Friends/Fans of LEGO) - www.lugnet.com, www.classic-space.com, www.classic-castle.com, the Flickr communities, and many others. I think you'll be amazed at what you find there.

  • Bah. Same silly specialized bullshit parts they have in all the Star Wars Lego and stuff. Screw Lego these days.

  • People like to pretend that lego was more pure in their childhood, but lego sets have contained specialized parts since the late 70s.

  • LEGO Masters? The heck? Well-regarded AFOLs (that's Adult Fans of LEGO for all you closet-fans), but they neither work for The LEGO Company nor have they paid up for the LEGO Certified Professional badge that I know of. Anyways, as someone who knew of these two guys before images of these sets started showing up, I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't come up with brand-new themes and instead just rebadged their Pre-Classic Space and 3vil themes for legal reasons.

    @loserface:
    Blacktron I, aka Cool Blacktron.

    @mikejonas:
    Other than the stickers on the torsos (yes, unfortunately, from the pics they are not making special painted torsos for this promotion), these should be entirely buildable using the LEGO Digital Designer program, and purchasable through the LEGO Factory. As such, the pricing shouldn't be too out of whack with the piece count because they wouldn't be allowed to order special pieces that aren't already in production. See, when they design a new set, every piece/color combo has a "price" associated with it, and they have to keep the set as a whole under a value based on its intended MSRP. If a part/color combo is already in production for another set, it's "price" drops compared to what it would be if they were forcing a special part run just for this one set. This is why Star Wars sets have a lot of filler bricks in primary colors, the UCS Batmobile used 1x1 black TECHNIC bricks (which it specifically needed in a few places) in those few instances when a regular 1x1 black brick would have worked, and certain highly specialized pieces will show up once and never see the light of day again (even if they'd be perfect in another situation). Now, that being said, a lot of us AFOLs tend to build very dense constructions, piece-count-wise. Where an official LEGO car might use a few dozen pieces, an AFOL car of the same size might use over 100 just to push the level of detail as high as possible. For instance, I built a minifig-scale Dodge Tomahawk which, under LEGO piece-count rules would clock in at 64 pieces. In constrast, the (a href="http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=7620&cn=519&d=70">smallest Indiana Jones set is 79 pieces, and inludes _three_ minifigs (with accessories) and _two_ motorcycles, plus a sidecar, a gatehouse, a flag, and some crates. Another good example is the fan-designed Cafe Corner, which fits on a single green baseplate, and has a piece-count that's about 40% of the UCS Millennium Falcon. And there are AFOLS who could have cranked that piece-count well over 5000 without changing the size, by doing stuff like using 1x2 dark-red plates to simulate actual minifig-scale bricks. Heck, I know a guy who'll spend $100+ on a single tree.

    @easy2panic:
    Here you go. Software's free, and you can buy anything you can design. LDraw is a more versatile program, though.

    @Vagabum:
    Really? I'm pretty sure the original sets included _five_ colors (black, white, red, blue, and yellow).

    @st3nz:
    Even better is hooking up with a local LEGO User Group, and being able to wow the unsuspecting public with your cool creations.
