Here is our exclusive video of the iPhone with hacked 2.0 firmware, running on a T-Mobile network instead of AT&T. Despite what other reports have erroneously stated, this is not a jailbroken iPhone with firmware 2.0, but a completely hacked version of the firmware that allows you to run any app and use any compatible carrier you want in the world. As we explained yesterday, it's going to be very difficult for Apple to close this hole, almost impossible, according to iPhone Dev Team sources. Update: changes on first sight:
Whats new? Visible changes are:• Exchange Support
• Appstore
• Parental Controls
• SDK Support
• Calculator is more advanced

Wow awesome... I need to know how to upgrade my AnySim hacked 1.0.2 phone to this version!
you keep saying any carrier. verizon is any right? ill buy one if i can hack it to work on verizon.
@fostina1: I'm not gonna commit, but I have to admit to a passing interest...
@fostina1: any GSM carrier
well.. Any GMS based carrier that is.. dunno what Verizon uses..
@D_Zarster: verizon & sprint are on CDMA
Verizon doesn't use a GSM network. According to Wikipedia GSM is used by 82% of wireless carriers in the world. Don't know what their excuse is to be honest.
We've got some noobies in the house today...
Let's stop discussing GSM vs. CDMA... this is about the iPhone hack. Am I the only one aroused by this?
@fostina1: any carrier means TMo
@Kobe_No_Means_No: the hack will be great when I can use it on verizon
verizon has a portion of their network that is GSM due to older blackberry's that weren't CMDA compatible at the time correct? This is something that I've heard, can someone please clarify for me and others? Because if thats the case then you should be able to run the iphone on verizon and sprint.
@Kobe_No_Means_No:
i know the difference between gsm and cmda, but they keep saying any!!!!! this article and the attatched. either its any or its bad reporting.
in the past when i tried to carry a sprint phone overseas for business they told me that I would have to rent or buy a different phone that would work on gsm networks overseas but would not work here. I don't believe any part of their network is gsm. if it was I would be buying an iphone right now to use this new hack/mod whatnot.
@mdawg4624: I'm not sure that's true; even if it is, I don't think Verizon phones come with sim cards, which are needed for the iPhone to function.
@jopari: The only Verizon/Sprint phones with SIM cards are the Blackberry 8830 World Phones...I think Sprint did have a Samsung PDA world phone as well.
@Mdawg4624: This is unfortunately not true. Verizon's network in the US is strictly CDMA. They do however sell world phones that are GSM compatible. They have a partner agreement with Vodafone to provide service when out of the US. These phones come with a SIM card, but also have Verizon CDMA built in to them for use when on US soil. They are generally honking big and ugly Samsung phones because of this.
Hacked iPhone on a T-Mobile network? This could simply be a German iPhone as well.
@fostina1: i agree... every article related to the iPhone being unlocked on 'ANY' network is just stupid, misleading, and ignorant. Any one who knows anything about cell phones know that the only other reliable GSM carrier in the U.S. is TMo. I don't understand how everyone gets hard on of being able to use the iPhone on 'any' network, when really it's only AT&T or TMo.
In other news, I'll be frank: when it comes down to functionality, the iPhone really doesn't live up to it's hype
anyone agree?
Why would Apple want to close the hole. If people hacking their phones to run on any network doesn't violate any contract Apple has with AT&T, why would they want to sell less phones?
i think ill go to consumerist and complain about this bad journalism lol.
@dysh
I disagree. I've had a Nokia E65 before, which also is a nice phone, but the music player is horrendous.
What's bad about iPhone is I cannot send pictures to my friends, which s*cks out loud.
I will have to disagree you you dysh. With this 2.0 update it will have lived up to every expectation I had for the device. I am using mine as a PDA which is what I wanted it to be. Not sure what Hype it is not living up to, maybe you could clarify in what way it has fallen short.
@docyoast: exactly... a $400+ phone can't even send pics... let's be honest here
Dam it!!!! i just switched over to AT&T. maybe i can use the the text message loop hole to get out of my contract.
@dysh: No, nobody agrees because, unlike you, we live in the world, where there are thousands of GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks. This is an international site read by millions around the world, get with the program.
@fostina1: I'm sorry you are frustrated because you can't use an iPhone on a Verizon network. Even while it's obvious that "any" carrier means any carrier with a network compatible with the iPhone, it may not be clear for people with limited technical knowledge. That, or you are just being anal about it.
Either way, I've added the "compatible" bit so you don't feel frustrated. Cheers.
Is there a link to a unlock howto? All the options, costs and directions?
@dysh: You can send pics, just not though MMS.
@Jesus Diaz:
not anal or frustrated, im no hacker and i have no clue to what you can make to emulate something else. (my ps2 can play snes and they are obviously not compatible) it could have been a breakthru, and i just wanted to know for sure. thank you.
If want to get technical, the software hack lets you use the phone on ANY carrier, the hardware however does not.
This is not directed at those whose primary language is not English, but there is clearly an adjective in there between 'any' and 'network': 'compatible'. Comprende?? Stop grousing about Verizon and Sprint. Most carriers in the rest of the world are GSM as far as I know, so 'any compatible network' pretty much does mean 'any network' except for Verizon and Sprint.
@Joseph: i'm not scared to beat dead horses...
a 400+ phone that can't MMS?
Oops. My bad. I guess I read that after the Jesus's edit. Well don't I look like an ass now. Hey, at least my friends will recognize me!
@Jesus Diaz: agreed... there are thousands of GSM networks worldwide, but unlike the U.S. where the networks blow, the other networks actually have phones that are much better than the iPhone
i mean look at the Nokia N95 (it'lll never be taken by a U.S. carrier); we're just lucky you can get it unlocked
Visual voicemail? Dont think so. Almost unlocked.
Does anyone know if the iPhone can run on the Alltel network? That would be dandy and make me really happy as Alltel service and customer support has been my favorite so far.
@dysh: no phone can be perfect, but imo this is the best phone i've ever owned, and i've owned a few.
@Samifumi:
Visual Voicemail is a completely server-side connect and is not related to whether your iPhone is unlocked or not.
@dysh:
I guess we need to stop assuming that a) people know the difference between GSM and CDMA and b) people know that other countries exist besides the US.
I am wondering if they can see how the new 802.1X support is working.
Ok, here's my perspective, since you asked.
I think the problem here is that some people think it's about the "Phone" part of iPhone that is important.
Others believe that the handheld computer part of the iPhone is what is important.
These two perspectives are correct, and mostly the discussion of the two does not overlap. This particular thread is more focused on the latter, and the people who want to talk about hacking a cool handheld computer are frustrated with the people who want to kvetch about a phone.
The people who want to kvetch about a phone are frustrated with the people who want to talk about hacking this cool handheld computer.
The choice is simple: put up with the disjoint nature of the subject matter, inherent as it is in the nature of the device; or go the filk elsewhere.
Back to your lives, citizens.
can't mms, can't bluetooth obex, can't video record ...
So what if wanted to hack my phone just so I can use it in europe without paying ATT through the nose, but wanted to unhack it when I got back?
Microsoft exchange that's the must have!
@dysh
Nokia N95 8GB: An $800 phone that doesn't have any input method other than a number pad? No touch screen or keyboard at all?
I'll take 2 iPhones over that any day of the week.
@phantam: yes, and the iphone can do loads of things that other phones can't. I think it's more than a fair tradeoff, especially considering that many of the features you "miss" with the iphone will likely get covered in newly written apps, now that the SDK is out there.
And even for people in the US, unlocking the phone lets you travel and buy simcards wherever you go. They're cheap, and then you have a local phone on the road.
@phantam:
can't light cigarettes, can't fly, isn't waterproof...
To the people who really get a kick out of recording low fidelity video of some lame shit and sending said videos to their friends phones:
Nobody likes your shaky, out of focus, low res lame videos, and they sure as hell don't like paying $0.30 to receive them. If the ability to do annoy the people around you in this way is a determining factor when buying a phone... please, go play outside for a while.
I am waiting in line to get 1.2 to get this upgrade for my iphone 1.1.3 with T-mobile
@fostina1: The difference between GSM and CDMA is like the difference between cars and boats. I can drive my car on any road, that isn't made of water.
Kthxbai
isn't the n95 available now in the US?
why do you want MMS? You can simply send an email to another iphone :)
