  • I can hardly contain myself. Rly.

  • Any chance we'll see it included in a PS3 bundle?

  • these's hitting the UK next week?

Any chance it will come bundled with a system that has games? (pokes bear)

  • So what your point? in one sentence you said: "if you see it, Buy it" and at the end you tell us that it adds NOTHING to one of the only games (without a patch) that is working with it... and what about GT 5 Prologue?

  • Sweet, and only several months after you could buy imported ones on ebay for a whole $5 more than retail.

@Dude27: Read carefully. I said I played it on 360, and the added rumble does nothing to the gameplay.

  • If only skate were on the list...

  • wait!!! where's Call of Duty 4????

Oh thank god I was tired of setting my PS3 controller down on my glass coffee table for a couple seconds to do something else, have something in the game happen and have the living shit scared out of me by the loud rumble.

  • Um, two different stores (have told me personally) and many websites have stated that a new bundle with larger hdd, and new pack in game is rumored for June. I'd guess that these controllers will be included. (Crosses fingers)

  • @Croathlete:

it's gonna come bundled with the MGS4 PS3

  • The rumble was exciting with PS2....but these days I don't see myself really enjoying it. I wonder what the rumble does for battery life?

  • Rumble is annoying and sucks battery juice.

  • @Dude27: GT5 Prologue isnt on the list because its not yet out in the states. That list only contains titles already out, There was a longer list in Japan that included more yet to be released titles.

  • @jcrockerman: my sentiments exactly, i signed up as a commenter just so i can say where is COD4 !

  • Well the addition of rumble is nice. It should have been there in the first place. But since rumble was an "after thought" I would have hoped a complete redesign of the controller was in order since the PS3 controller is an ergonomic failure for us westerners with larger hands.

I can play for hours without cramping or tiring with the XBOX 360 controller. But with the PS3 controller it's about 4 hours until my hands actually begin to hurt. The PS3 front buttons are just not in the position where my fingers naturally rest. And my hands aren't really that big either. I would consider my hands to be "average" for a westerner.

  • @Dude27: Obviously, you've never played that stinker of a game "Lost"

  • @Croathlete: the mgs4 bundle was supposed to have one.

  • Funny how there are a few negative comments about rumble here. The tide has changed a little around here. Personally, I agree. I never missed it.

  • I imported a DS3 from Play-asia.com a while back. The Grand Turismo Prologue demo supports rumble, so I imagine the final game will too. Motorstorm is fun with the rumble, as is Drake's Fortune.

BTW, my unscientific study shows that the rumble doesn't kill battery life that much. I feel like I'm charging about as frequently as I was on the plain old Sixaxis.

  • Hmmmmm.......It's about frakkin' time.

  • @Jason Chen: my bad, sorry

  • I guess I just don't get why people love on the playstation controllers so hard when the ergonomics are just terrible. Sure, it has rumble now on top of its limited motion capabilities, but the conroller still sucks and has changed only incrementally in ten years. TEN YEARS!!!

And no, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't apply. If Sony had originally pulled out ANYTHING other than the silver boomerang controller (which was heinous but actually looked more comfortable), we'd be a lot better off for long gaming sessions.

  • I had gotten this imported from Japan two months ago for COD4 but with no luck. Rumple is not supported by COD4 and am very disappointed :( it works great with other games

  • @axiomatic: I'm with you. I wish Sony would change the ergonomics of their controllers. I top out at about 30 minutes of game play with their controllers before my hands starts hurting. I don't have big hands, and almost nothing else I do in this world causes hand cramping or soreness.

    @Claystil:
On the same note, the XB360 controller, with it's non-symmetric positioning of the analog sticks, causes my left hand to cramp up after a half hour of COD4. I remember the PS2 controller being pretty rough as well. The handle shouldn't taper so much - pinky and ring finger have nothing to grab onto properly.

  • @Claystil: Thats the reason I didn't even like the ps2. For me, the left analogue stick is in the wrong place which leaves me playing with the d pad.

  • @drewkkake: Can't agree with you.. Nope.. Go away.

  • I have no problem with the ergonomics with their controllers. In fact, I think they are the best controllers. I don't have very large hands so I can play for hours and my hands never hurt, ever. I hope the design never changes.

  • Image of nutbastard nutbastard at 02:02 PM on 04/02/08 *

And yeah, rumble is overrated (by manufacturers)

Im not sure if the 360 controller can be set to rumble on COD4 but the last thing i need when im being shot is something fucking up my aim.

  • Image of nutbastard nutbastard at 02:04 PM on 04/02/08 *

    @turbofreak:
big hands here and lemme tell you, i almost want to wrap a shitload of tape around the handles for extra thickness.

why dont they sell the controllers in 2 sizes?!

  • @nutbastard:
damn cynic, like the PS2, turn the damn rumble off!

  • @nutbastard:
they dont sell them in 2 sizes 'cause they want you to get a freakin job!

  • After going from the PS2 to the Xbox 360, in my opinion...

    Xbox 1 Controller < PS2 Controller < Xbox 360 Controller

I don't know if the PS3 controller is any different to the PS2, but it always felt as if the left analog stick was in the wrong place.. That's what you're using most of the time for movement, and it's so much easier to have your left thumb straighter and moving it than bent and then moving it.

  • Do any of the current production PS3s play PS2 games? I have the first generation 60GB PS3, and I've never had an issue with playing PS2 games. I know someone who bought a 40GB PS3 recently and it does not play PS2 games. Did the 80GBs do so, and where are they in stores? Pulled off the shelves for a 120GB soon?

  • I personally love the controller design, I have rather large hands and they almost never get sore no matter what consoles controller I'm holding(except perhaps a wiimote sideways to play SSBB, never again). The design was great to me when the PS1 launched and has been up until now. I can understand how different people have different preferences as well and I'm rather surprised no companies have done what they have been doing with Wiimotes and making molded attachments.

  • Image of LittleBigPlaneteer LittleBigPlaneteer at 02:30 PM on 04/02/08 *

    @Samifumi:

80GB plays most PS2 games, a particular 80GB bundle that was limited edition was discontinued and will be replaced in June with another 80GB bundle, this time with Metal Gear Sold 4 in the box, for the same price of 499.

  • It would be nice to turn off rumble for when you're shooting at people, but still have it rumble when you're getting hit by bullets.

  • I have two questions. A cookie to anyone who can answer them:

    1) Does the rumble feature work on PS2 rumble-enabled games played on the PS3 if you have the 60GB version with hardware backward compatibility?

    2) Does the new Dualshock 3 still incorporate the Six-axis motion sensing?

  • Rumble is so last gen tho....

  • @EBone: Still has the motion sensing yes, the only differences are the rumble and it's a bit heavier than the SIXAXIS which is no bad thing.

  • If you see it in stores, buy it.

hmm... i don't see why. in the days and months leading up to November 2007 i heard from many many many people that rumble wasn't even needed in a controller. that it was annoying and was not even going to be missed in games at all.

that said... i must agree with everyone else that has said it so far... i seriously thought the original dual-analog PS controller was a stopgap design when i first used it. it was a hideous ergonomic nightmare. incredibly uncomfortable. then it showed up on the PS2... uh oh. then the PS3? what the hell people. it is a horrible cramped design that could only possibly appeal to people that have literally used nothing else since they were 5 and are scared of anything "new" or "different". as dumb as the banana controller looked... it at least appeared to be about 9000X more comfortable to use.

  • @Twenty5: Then what's THIS generation in joystick control?

  • @Twenty5: You're so right, when i get shot by someone i actually want feel the lead! That would be SO much more immersive than a vibrating controller, something that is effectively a poorly designed masturbatory device.

Seriously though, vibration does nothing for me, apart from piss me off.

  • playasia.com had them for a while, 3 colors:white, silver, black...I had mine shipped in a while ago, absolutely love it!

  • @nutbastard: I'd like to second the call for two sizes.

Other than being a little on the small size for western adult hands the layout and design is about perfect, that's why it hasn't changed much since the dualshock. Come to think of it pror to the PS one the only other controller that was contoured much at all was the n64 trident. I've not really missed the rumble much at all.

The motion sensor is nice, but not really practical. I'd rather see it not used than mis-used (Motorstorm motion steering = bad, Rachet & Clank skydiving and High Velocity Bowling = good). It's kind of like galic in food, a lot all at once is ok every now and then but it's usually best used sparingly.

  • Had no problem with Xbox controller not PS3 controller. Must suck to be you suckas.. :)

  • sixaxis discontinued!? but that was how it was going to compete with the wii's motion sensing! im just glad sony got this sorted out in time for the MGS ps3 they are releasing this summer.

  • @Kyoseki:

Didn't Sony originally tell us that the reason they could not include rumble on the PS3 controller was because it would interfere with the motion sensors? Makes you wonder if Sony might have actually lied to us doesn't it?

  • @robinandtami: Sony lie, I'm shocked! LOL

  • @robinandtami: I thought it had to do with licensing...

    ---

Well I've had the Japanese version of the DS3 for some time now and it' s pretty enjoyable, it's also a bit heavier than the old controller, so it sits tighter in the hand I find.

Sure, rumble isn't the most exciting thing out, but it's still worth buying if you're planning on getting a second(or 3rd,4th) controller :)

  • This is SO the year for Sony. Blu ray won, PSN is getting fixed, we finally get rumble, Home is coming, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Resistance 2, etc. etc. etc! PS3's are gonna fly off the shelves!

  • @BostonPimpDaddy: You mean.. DUAL SHOCKED!

  • @Vindicoth: LOL
