Perspektiva Lamp: For Anyone Who Dreams of Being Stalked By the Paparazzi

According to the designers at Transparent House, the idea behind the Perspecktiva lamp was "to integrate an iconic object into modern day life while maintaining the qualities of art and function." In this case the "iconic object" was a vintage camera inspired by the classic Leica design. The result is a work of art that should appeal to just about anyone—especially Hollywood hopefuls that dream that they too will one day have to file a restraining order against a paparazzo. Too bad it is only a concept at this point. Video after the break.

Ridiculous. I mean, it might have made aesthetic sense (and it would never make practical sense) if the light had come out of, say, a pseudo-flash unit attached to the top of the pseudo-camera. But, light pouring out of a camera lens? This screams of a random idea being presented as high art.

  • Does anyone else here constantly hit "refresh" waiting for something new to post? Ya...I thought so...

  • Of course it's only a concept. The technical difficulties involved in jamming a light fixture into an old camera are practically insurmountable.
    Shine on, you crazy moonbeams!

@Lorne: Indeed. I understand the prototype was an Ansel Adams-style 8x10 view camera with a penlight wedged into the bellows, but now they are baffled as to how to proceed.

  • As a photographer I've always wanted this, I can't wait to buy it. And no I don't have an iPhone....but 3G is coming soon =-D

@ILikeMacsWhatAboutIT: "As a photographer I've always wanted this, I can't wait to buy it."

Then you're in luck! Their as-yet unannounced partner product is a Kodak Instamatic duct-taped into a Luxo lamp head. Also, of course, still in the concept stage, needing several weeks to be rendered first as a 3D animation.

  • it'b cool if it took pictures ^o^

  • It's stupid so long as the light doesn't come from where the flash would.

  • I love it, as a professional photographer I'd definitely buy it. To bosskev, it is still a concept, you seem to take it way too literally. I think folks at Transparent House created a beautiful presentation for a super stylish, sexy product...It is rather inspiring.

  • As a photographer, I thought this was a dope item. Out the flash makes sense, but this wouldn't be a practical purchase anyways. More of a conversation piece.

  • What would be even cooler if if this thing was in fact a REAL camera and you can get head shots from unsuspecting victims and then 10 years later post them in a gallery, call it art, and retire a millionaire...

  • I thought it was a real leica.... I was going to throw a fit if they took apart a 4000 dollar camera to make a light...

  • @bosskev: Someone needs a hug. [www.freehugscampaign.org]

  • what a waste of material and time......someone cut that fuckers head off

    @ILikeMacsWhatAboutIT:
thanks... **sniff** ...nobody understands me... **sob**

  • either you like the deisng or not, I personally love the presentation. Looks like the company specializes in photorealistic 3d, so nothing is real here... Welcome to guerrilla product promotion 2008...

There are two sides to the argument that the light should come from the flash area.

    1. If it did, it would look and act much more like a camera. In which case, everyone would assume its a real camera and ask why the hell its set up constantly in the living room, and be worried you were attempting some kind of ledgerdermain or skullduggery via the camera.

    2. With the light coming out of the lens area, obviously the lamp does not look or act like a real camera, but more like a lamp in sheep's clothing. So, while not factually accurate, at least people will say "cool lamp" as opposed to "what's up with the camera in the living room, you sicko."

Side note, I love it, as well as the rest of the room its staged in. When can I move in?
