We absolutely love it when cyberspace and meatspace intersect, which is why we're enthused over this Online Notification Picture Frame. It's a DIY project that connects via some interface (the guy doesn't say) to a computer, which feeds online status information back to the display. If a person's online, the LED next to his photo lights up. We'd prefer it if this were a more digital solution like an actual photo frame that dynamically displayed the pictures of people who were online, but this is a good start. this is a great idea. If there was a picture frame that showed the status in real time of my friends/family i would definetly buy into that
So i gotta sit around and stare at that damn picture all day until someone comes home from work so we can play SoCom. No thanks!
Awesome idea!
Is this a buddy list for really old people that don't understand the basic concept of AIM? Or for people who are on-line stalkers?
Yeah it's an awesome idea...
But why does this guy have wallet pictures of his guy friends? And it's only dudes..the 5th picture isn't clear, but i'm sure its probably a dude.
Creative, but not creative enough to avoid the allure of trappings from IKEA.
The best part about this post is that it implies that the creator only has 5 friends.
Yeah... that's about right.
@tamade: See why do you automatically assume it's a guy who made it? Girls could do electronics too yknow.
In this case, a harlot.
@tamade:
a: He's a professional photographer and keeps samples of work he does for friends.
b: He has a camera, and knows how to use photoshop and a pair of scissors.
c: It's may just be possible that he is, in fact (say it ain't so!) gay.
I betcha it's "a". (ugh. creepy photographers...It's just not natural!)
Isn't this what cyber stalkers do when they get the profile pictures of their wish-victims? This is pretty much shrine material.
@InfoMofo:
Yeah! That too. .....er, uhm. girl power 'n stuff..
Reminds me of the availibot. Too bad they stopped working on that.
"friends"
I don't understand this part. :D
Obviously its a girl considering the D cell battery in the top right. Girl gadgets are the only ones these days that require those...
Of course I am only kidding and it is actually a guy.
Interesting. But instead of a regular picture, why not use one of those LCD picture frame and display the one who is calling... To save space, instead of using an LCD picture frame, just display the picture on the monitor when someone is calling... But instead of just displaying the picture to take up the whole monitor, why not just display it as a small icon next to the persons IM name.
That's more like it.
watch out! he's got ipaq!
wait is that a wii on his computer??
Those look like baseball cards in the picture frame -- will it tell me when Manny Rameriz is online?
@ripfire4: Very good idea, how about you supply him the materials which he may not be able to afford. And the blueprints, since his gadget seems much less intensive than your idea.
Nonetheless, I agree, make the gadget that actually shows who is online by their profile ID, not limiting you to five people who you must already have a picture of.
Um lets notice the fact that people who have THIS MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS only have.... 1... 2... 3... 4... friends.
the 5th friend could be you if you're nice.
the digital picture frame version should have your friends heads replacing those in oh, say 'the last supper' ...or congress. or just all morphed together in a wad.
Does this work for all IM applications? I want to use my BigString Self Distructing app
