The Gadget: I'm not a big tea drinker, but I appreciate the Sorapot tea pot's design. It's been an object of desire since I first saw the renderings and the how to video.
Price: $179.
The Verdict: Using it, I've got a few gripes that people who plan to use this every day might complain about if they want practicality over pure design porn. First, the tea kettle is to be filled by the spout, which leads to spilling. This is presumably because on it's side, cylinder in the vertical space, the glass feels pretty unstable. (See my awkwardness in the video. BTW do not expect to be entertained.) Secondly the pour is kind of inconsistently slow then very fast, because there's no way for air to initially make up for the vacuum left by the water until you pour at a certain angle. Closing the kettle involves tightening a hand screw, which is not all that convenient
Having just complained about the pot, there is no doubt that it is the best looking tea steeping device I've seen in some time, and will be for some time to come. That's worth a lot, and I'm sure the inconveniences above could be overcome by someone in lust with it. [Sorapot]

I just have to say one thing... That mustache is DISGUSTING.
thanks for helping to keep my money in my back pocket,
brian... i was planning to get this... i'm sure i would have been just as frustrated as you are.
@keronian: Wow, you must have just gotten your comment account. Sorry my moustache isn't as sexy as your moms.
Yeah, this looks a bit complicated. I'm partial to the coolness of the museum teapot from SFMOMA, but after a quick google it looks like they're no longer?
One of the most underrated design flaws around. It seriously bugs the bejebus out of me when that happens.
I appreciate good design but an important part of design is function and that thing pours terribly. The trophy wife of tea kettles.
I have a green worn out old tea kettle with paint chipped in several places, and a wooden handle that was burnt somehow. More beautiful than this, but that's because I'm out of my mind.
@Brian Lam: ZING!!!!1one
I love Lam and his fine connoisseur tastes. Contemporary-ness at its finest.
interesting design.
I could see it as a tea kettle in a art-nouveau style restaurant.
I love Blam's wild hair. Reminds me of Sasuke.
Dude, I think the mustache rules!
@Brian Lam: Your mustache is beautiful. Don't listen to that guy.
@keronian:
I'm a little teapot, short and stout;
here is my handle, and here is my BANHAMMER
@Brian Lam: Best response ever.
The mustache rocks.
The kettle, not so much. Actually, it's horrible. Simply horrible. I'll stick with my Beehouse. It can actually make tea.
@Kaiser-Machead: The mom jokes never cease to be classy. Also, I was surprised that the recently departed keronian had a comment account for awhile. HAD.
@TommySez: I don't mean to say this thing isn't incredible, but I do feel a certain amount of contortion to make this thing work for me. I look at it and tend to shy away from using it because, hey, lazy.
@Brian Lam: YAH! GO FOR THE FACE AND EYES BLam!
also, I hope Red Bull (RED BULL!) paid you to wear that shirt. They'll pay anyone for anything as long as it has red bull on it. //goin' to collect my paycheck, thanks. and is that REALLY tea or is this another Frucci video?
@Brian Lam: I think Keronian also couldn't tell that your fine 'stache was simply reflecting a sort of double-image in the kettle. That probably made him think the actual stache looked weird.
@oo0cyst0oo: Frucci video is extremely cool. Did you know that he had first dates where people googled and those vids came up first?
@Nintenboy01: No, it's actually really weird. Trust me.
LOL...I can tell by the video that he didnt read the SoraPot Directions.
Step 6 say's, Stand Sorapot upright and pour hotwater into the spot. I nearly lost it laughing when you started to pour water into the beaker while holding the lower section like a mug. Sadly....someone caught you and you edited out the section where the water went IN the spout. :(
This comment thread needs more concept kettle conversation and less of Brian's Glorious mustache.
I Kid!
"Having just complained about the pot"
No, not allowed; PARTY FOUL!
Does this mean no more f*cking GAWKER media player videos? I hate those with a passion
@Seni: Strike that. reverse it.
@Brian Lam: That's awesome. that only ends 2 ways- good and great. explain that to a complete stranger.
"Uh, yeah, had to do it for work. Um and the dildo convention assslapping thing, well... yeah."
I'm more of a coffee person, but I can appreciate this for it's looks.
I'd have it around for the tea drinkers.
If they can figure out how to use it, good for them. :D

Bad design... The vacuum gulp issue looks like it would scald the hand holding the cup... and it does not look like it holds much water.
Get your paws off me you dirty ape!
Why not simply pour the water into the beaker, and THEN place the beaker onto the metal frame? Would that no tbe easier?
This said, it still would not make the tea pour out any better, though...
179.99! I could totlly make that for under 10 bucks....
looks pretty POURLY made to me. hahaha pourly.... i'm too funny for my own good. but honestly, function, especially when messing around with hot water, is key here. i think they should have really thought it out a bit more. also, moustache is A+.
Nice to see that the banhammer has been in full effect lately
Anwhooo, back on topic, it is indeed a pretty design. but we must all remember, one of the most important aspects of design is practicality/usability. If its design interferes with its sole purpose, then well...it has a poor design.
I'm English and as such, my opinion of tea-pots is more important than those of citizens of any other nation in the world, except maybe China or India, but still, ya know?
The way the water instantly runs down the spout is awful - it can lead to scarring burns and other painful afflictions, and the inconsistent flow is a MAJOR design flaw. If it had a little flap that opened with a lever on the handle, it would let the air in and have an even flow.
But that dripping is still lethal.
Let's see...add a 6" curved tube inside spout to break vacuum...change screw to cam lever and reverse rod so hinge is on bottom...flatten holder end opposite spout to allow filling while vessel mounted in holder...done! Now that wasn't so hard, was it?
@Collins1: Or Japan...
@keronian: Dude, what a schmucky comment to make.
Seriously, apologies for my apparently lame attempt at humor. I now see the glories of the fuzzy face of Blam.
@berribrand: Well, China and India together contain about 2.5 billion people, and Japan's impact on that figure would be meager.
As far as ease of steaping and pouring my tea it doesn't get much easier than the IngenuiTEA.
