The China-based Commercial Times has reported that Foxconn, the company behind the first iPhone, is prepping a 3G model for late May. With Apple's anticipated announcement expected at WWDC in early June, Foxconn is preparing for shipments of three million 3G iPhones during that month. And through the product's lifespan, the manufacturer anticipates shipping 24-25 million 3G iPhones. So does that mean we finally have a better rumor on our hands? UNCONFIRMED: APPLE PREPPING 4G iPHONE. [digitimes] Thanks everyone!

Wow, I was an early adopter and I suppose I'll have to be dropping another pile of cash on the new Iphone. ATT should give a little money off if you trade in an old Iphone. Somehow I doubt that they'll give you anything though. AWE WELL, Gotta have that 3g.
I'm sure I'll get one, but I think I'll wait until September/October.
It's about damn time. Only reason I refused to get an iPhone was because of edge. I stuck with the HTC Touch/iPod touch combo because of that.
I've been waiting for this for me to get an iPhone. Hopefully it has more storage too!
wait 3 more months and you have a price dropdown
Can't wait! While i'm sure there will be no discount, an old-to-new iphone trade in would be amazing. Is anyone else as dissatisfied by ATTs network as i am? I'm from ohio, and there's a LOT of places i don't get service (ie. my own house) The new phone is gettin cracked to another service provider!
How can production start already without seeing the new unit go through the FCC?
Somewhere, in a guest bathroom of Steve Job's residence, you can hear Steve yell "Noooooooo!" at the release...of this information.
One less "oh, one more thing, boom!" moment for the iGod.
GPS please, and I'm in.
And don't even THINK about a monthly surcharge for GPS navigation services, AT&T.
Looks like my wife will soon be getting a gently-used 1st gen iPhone. :)
I wonder what the battery life will be like... God knows that 3G internet anywhere would be a good selling point for me.
Here's hoping that Apple has done it's due diligence on the issue.
i've actually been waiting on the 3G iphone since the release of the edge one.
i am definitely getting a 3G one.
@ Jp Checa: As I´ve heard, if the new 3G iPhone is only a review of the 1st gen one, with only a few changes in its performance but not in the hardware, the approval from FCC is obtained almost automatically.
I hope Jesusphone finally reaches Spain...
Is the release schedule subtle incentive not to get AppleCare? After all, if your original iPhone can't be repaired under extended warranty, it's that much easier to justify upgrading to 3G.
@Jp Checa: This has been discussed to death on other sites. In a nutshell there are companies that license with the FCC to do the required testing. Apple can work with one of these third parties to do all the testing & verification, etc. and wait to file the actual paperwork with the FCC until the very last minute. The FCC will also agree to to divulge any details until a certain date. So Apple can keep things hidden as far as FCC filings go until the very last moment.
I'll wait till August for the price drop. But I must have one.
I want to know what at&t will charge for the 3G iphone data plan.
please tell me it wont lose wifi?
I can't wait for the 3g iphone, but with at&t im already paying a shit load for my blackjack2's 3g
Hmmm... I thought that Apple was "the company behind the first iPhone," not Foxconn. ;)
And how can Foxconn expect to ship 3 million iPhones to China in June if there have been only 4-5 million first gen iPhones sold WORLDWIDE in the last year? This can't be correct unless Apple is preparing to manufacture ten times as many second gen iPhones, and in record time!
