Light Bags LoJack Your Handbag With GPS

lightbags.jpgGet a load of this racket. A company called Marilyn Light Bag has developed a series of purses equipped with a GPS tracker in the event that it is lost or stolen. A device, the product page claims, can not be deactivated by a thief. The real kicker here is that the first two months of GPS monitoring are free, with a $15 charge for each month thereafter. So, essentially you are paying for your purse in perpetuity—all in the hopes that you might be able to recover the bag if it should ever vanish (but the contents may be another story). Prices start at $30. [Lightsbag via Shiny Shiny via Popgadget via Ubergizmo]

  • I am OCD when it comes to insurance. My insurance premiums are probably a good 800 a month AFTER my employers rather large contribution (car, life, health... so on). I am not cheap when it comes to insurance so IF I carried a purse, I would most certainly buy this one. Now add this feature to my lap top bag (aka my purse) and you've got yourself a buyer.

  • Like any thief isn't going to just run 2 blocks, take everything of value OUT of the purse, then toss it into the nearest dumpster...

  • @matteric: in my imaginary world this doesn't happen.

At that price, you would almost want to get mugged. It's like paying for health insurance and never getting sick or injured - what a let down! I'm PAYING for ER coverage, i wanna USE it! someone kick my ass!

Why can't they make a purse with one of those dye-bombs they put in cash bags when banks get robbed? furthermore, why are there no lockable purses? make em out of steel mesh and kevlar and put some biometrics in there. of course it would weight 15 pounds, but hauling around a friggin body bag sized sack of junk doesn't seem to bother most women now.

  • @shamoononon: Then you should go for an imaginary world with no mugging, and save the cost of the purse!

@nutbastard: Ahh, impetuous youth... That probably explains why most Emergency Room visitors are young males in their early 20s: "Hey anybody here wanna kick my ass? Yeah, I'm talkin' to YOU buttface! Let's DANCE baby, I've got HEALTH INSURANCE!!!"

  • they should market this as a way to track your cheating girlfriend

  • Maybe if it was a Prada bag it came in. Anyone stealing a purse will take the money out of it, then dump it in a trash can where the cops will find it, empty.
Wouldn't having this kind of thing installed in a notebook computer be loads more useful? They could sell preloaded marked up notebooks with the monitoring service, even wire the laptop batter to backup the GPS power supply to run when it's activated.

  • You know...

lojack-style tags could be real useful for dealing with the hazards of lost-luggage in air travel...

  • Oh come on, if I bought a fake bag (not intentionally) I'd WANT it to be stolen - by the mail man on its way to me!

  • Thats the Fendi Spy Bag
    My sister has it
I think it's a horrible looking purse, idk wtf it's so popular.
Also I have many designer bags...if someone steals it all i have to do is call a few numbers and my credit/ debit cards are suspended. and they can take my mase and starbucks after coffee gum .....OH WAIT MY MAKEUP.....shijtsdafdf
    sign me up dammit!

  • I refuse to have to plug-in a bag.
