3D GIFs… From the 1930s

French photographer “Alexis” stumbled upon one hell of an antique find: stereoscopic glass plates from 80 years ago. Of course now, we live in the age of the GIF—and we can make old Paris a little alive again.

It’s astounding how much just the slightest addition of depth affects what would otherwise just be another antique black and white image. If we couldn’t put our eyes on these digitizations, we’d have to find museum piece stereoscopic equipment. Which isn’t really an option. Today’s internet gift.

To be able to peer into the scene infinitesimally makes the places and people, the latter of which are perhaps dead, entirely inhabited.
