It sounds impossible, but Ridley Scott has never won an Oscar. He’s been nominated four times (for Best Director, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down; for Best Picture, The Martian), and his body of work even beyond those films has made a huge impact on cinema. He made two of the greatest and most influential sci-fi films ever, Alien and Blade Runner, as well as Legend, Hannibal, and Alien prequels Prometheus and Covenant, to name just a few more.

At 88, he’s still got a very active career, with apocalyptic tale The Dog Stars coming out in August and a new Treasure Island with Hugh Jackman announced just days ago. Beyond film, he’s also been active in TV, executive producing shows like Alien: Earth, The Terror, Raised by Wolves, The Man in the High Castle, and more.

Of course, the Oscars don’t care about the small screen, but those credits add to his weighty place in entertainment. So it makes sense that the Academy Awards have named Scott among the recipients of this year’s Honorary Oscars, which will be handed out in November.

As Variety reports, Scott’s in very good company; the other honorees include actor Glenn Close, who has been nominated eight times with no wins, as well as the pioneering Floyd Norman, who was hired as the first Black animator at Disney in 1956 ahead of a six-decade career at the studio. Producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler will also take home the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in recognition of their support of independent films.

The ceremony will take place November 15 in Hollywood—just days before Scott’s 89th birthday on November 30.
