The world is a garbage heap, but some wonders do exist—and one of them is a cursed island 40 miles off the coast of New England. Amid the sad reality that outstanding horror comedy Widow’s Bay has only one episode left in its first season, fans now have fresh joy to cling to: Apple TV has just announced the show will return for more.
“Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about,” Widow’s Bay creator, showrunner, and executive producer Katie Dippold joked in an Apple TV press release.
“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laugh, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro [Murai, director and executive producer], Matthew [Rhys, who stars as Mayor Tom Loftis and also executive produces], and the entire team have created,” added Matt Cherniss, head of programming, Apple TV. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”
Did Martha’s Vineyard get renewed? Didn’t think so!
The season two news also came with the announcement that Dippold has signed a “new, multi-year overall deal” with Apple TV, which we hope means she’ll keep bringing Widow’s Bay to screens well into the future—as well as whatever other projects she wants to apply her talents to, because we are Team Dippold all the way.
Widow’s Bay also stars Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey, as well as K Callan and Jeff Hiller. The season one finale arrives June 17 on Apple TV.
