I have Razer headphones I got from woot! that I love, and I use the case to hold my camera. I think I paid 12.99 for the headphones, which is the most I ever paid.
@Faceless Internet Commenter: Marketing. The DS is cheaper and was successfully marketed to a larger audience. Price also makes a big difference. These things caused developers to lean towards making more DS games than PSP games. So now the DS has a much more broad library with lots of great titles while the PSP has a handful of pretty good games, and not very many outstanding ones.
@Nebetsu: well I agree with half your assessment, but when it comes to developers and games, I think we differ. I think the DS's lower price and relatively low capabilities (as well as limits set on retail price and ease of development) led to a crush of poor titles for the DS.
Here are some stats that support that argument; of the 606 titles available for the DS, just 139 are actually rated "good" or better. That works out to a 23% favorable rating. The PSP on the other hand has just 420 titles available, but 125 of them are "good" or better. That's a rate of 30% playable games.
So the DS has a few more good games overall (and arguably more "great" games") but the PSP has almost as many and a higher average quality of game, as well as having undeniably higher production quality.
I'm no PSP fanboy - in fact I just sold mine and actually pick up my DS for the first time in 6 months just so I could play a few titles that I'd missed (including Chinatown Wars). But I think it's undeniable that the two platforms have practically the same number of good games, but that there is a LOT more crap for the DS.
"There's little doubt that DSiWare will become a serious platform all its own."
Actually I think there's a big question about that. DSIware requires a completely different piece of hardware, and it comes at a time when most interested parties already have a DS and aren't inclined to spend $170 on a handheld gaming device only for the privilege of being able to be nickel-and-dimed with mini-games. I think Nintendo's attempt to create a content store will fail miserably with this generation of handheld, though they might be able to salvage something of it for the next real generation of handheld that they put out.
These things are nice, but I don't really see the appeal of having a DS or a PSP now that most cell phones can handle games of the same quality. And $170 is a bit high for the system.
@Chike Ujuagu: Iphone has games of the same quality? When I can get a game on Iphone that looks, sounds and plays as good as God of War: CoO or Ninja Gaiden DS, come talk to me. Until then, Iphone gaming is utter shit compared to PSP and DS.
@KeyboardPillow_GitEmSteveDave: Um, so in the article, Mark Wilson says "If you are not (pretty), maybe you know someone attractive who might fill in for you." Then, he posts pictures of the log in screen with Jason Chen's picture. Uh, what's going on here? Is Mark admitting that Jason is better-looking than him? Is it a bizarre man crush? Or is it a twisted ploy to deceive us? CONFUSION.
@Kaiser-Machead: I never really wanted one... actually found one, once. It even had two games in it, and I gave it to a family member. But for some reason, this just tickles my fancy! Must have.
That's impressive for a Nintendo handheld, still can't touch the web browser on the iPhone - and the gaming on the iPhone tops that of Nintendo. It's a win, win.
@Auzburner:I seriously doubt that. The DS is always going to trounce the iPhone/iPod touch on most kinds of games. The iPhone has some great time killers, but no touch screen/four-way accelerometer combo is going to top the classic cursor/button ensemble. No way no how.
