10 of the Worst CGI Moments in Big Budget Movies

Movie CG gets better every year, and that’s bad news for the blockbusters of yesteryear which have a tendency to age really, really poorly.

WhatCulture rounded up some of the most embarrassing CG in Hollywood, from I Am Legend to The Mummy Returns. Remember when Will Smith fighting zombie-like creatures was as good as visuals got? Kind of makes you nervous for the big, loud, explosion-heavy tentpole movies on the docket for this summer, and how janky they’ll look in another 10 years.

Fun fact on Die Another Day... For the scene referenced above, when the movie had it’s theatrical release, had a few shots still as polygons and the float over the crest was wireframe. Post-production had forgotten to replace the shots before sending it to the theaters (they were late renders). It was corrected in the following weeks and the DVD, of course, was correct. So all and all, it was worse.

Also, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was released with much of the fur rendering unfinished. The VFX company was way behind schedule so the decision was made to just let it go out incomplete. The home release was the first time with the complete VFX. You can see the problems on characters other than Aslan.
