Io9 2025 Spoiler warning

Untitled Daniels’ Project

According to Deadline, Sandra Oh will star alongside Matt Damon in the mysterious new project from Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, which we previously speculated could be a Captain Planet movie. Details on her character are not available at this time.

FlySquad – First Strike!

Deadline reports that Cher and Bob Geldof of The Boomtown Rats will lend their voices to the Australian animated feature, FlySquad- First Strike! Said to be both written and produced by Anthony Maley, the project follows “three unlikely insect heroes who infiltrate a vast human chemical fortress in search of an antidote to a toxin threatening the survival of their world.” Cher will voice the “mother of the film’s central protagonist,” while Geldof has signed on to play the “legendary insect rock star and organizer of ‘Insect Aid.'”

Ray Gunn

A new report from The Wrap details the fractious relationship between Ray Gunn director Brad Bird and its distributor, Netflix. According to the report, ongoing tensions between Paramount and Netflix have left the Skydance Animation production an unpopular choice for theatrical release, despite a push from Bird’s team to have it replace the two-week IMAX theatrical run intended for Greta Gerwig’s delayed Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.

Instead, Netflix has chosen to release The Adventures of Cliff Booth in its Thanksgiving slot, despite director David Fincher’s personal ambivalence toward his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood spinoff receiving any sort of theatrical release. Despite positive test screenings, the outlet additionally suggests there have been internal “struggles” plaguing “the hot potato” project regarding both its runtime and eventual MPAA rating. Naturally, Netflix is pushing for a “PG” rating for the animated family film, though the “intense” final product could garner a “PG-13” in its current state.

Austin Powers 4

While fielding a fan’s question during his recent appearance on Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party (via Deadline), Mike Myers simply responded “yes” when asked if there are plans for a fourth Austin Powers film.

As noted by the outlet, Myers has been interested in a sequel for some time. He’s previously said he would like a follow-up to focus heavily on Dr. Evil.

Evil Dead Wrath

Speaking at Michigan State University (via Dread Central) Evil Dead Wrath producer Rob Tapert revealed the film is set in 1972, making it a prequel to even the original Evil Dead.

This is yet another great departure. It predates everything. It takes place in 1972.

It’s the story of a French woman in a bad marriage in America, and… what we will discover along the ride – was probably an abusive husband, whose family did not believe her – and so they were basically the in-laws from hell.

Her Private Hell

According to Bloody-Disgusting, Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell has been rated “R” for “some strong/bloody violence, sexual content, and language.”

Night After Night

Director Josh Lobo (I Trapped the Devil) shared a poster for his new sci-fi thriller, Night After Night, on Instagram. The story follows a pair of security guards at a mysterious university in which one suddenly vanishes. “While patrolling a newly constructed wing,” the remaining watchman “discovers a sealed room— and inside it, a stranger who returns each night in a newly formed body, as if remade from scratch.”

Hot Spot

Noomi Rapace stars in the trailer for Hot Spot, the latest film from The Lure director Agnieszka Smoczyńska set in “a near future society ruled by sentient AI.” The story follows a private eye investigating a murder case, “only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord.”

Big Baby

Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier, Return to Nuke ’em High) protests her character’s fate to a vengeful screenwriter (Brandon Scott) in the trailer for Big Baby, the latest horror film from Powerman 5000 frontman, Spider One.

Slashercise

We also have a trailer for the ’80s aerobics horror movie, Slashercise, starring Vanessa Decker, Kelli Maroney, Lisa Wilcox, Tiffany Shepis, and Felissa Rose.
