You can now see You Can See Everything. At least the trailer for it, that is.
The documentary features comedian Nathan Fielder moving in with notorious tech scammer Elizabeth Holmes to follow her in her last thirty-four days before she was sent to prison. Directed by Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, who is also behind the new film Primetime, the movie promises to be “a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss,” according to the synopsis provided by A24. Holmes has been in prison since May 2023, serving a roughly 10-year sentence after defrauding investors of hundreds of millions of dollars with her startup Theranos.
Theranos offered a product that it claimed could perform a wide range of blood tests with just a few drops of blood. The theoretical system, along with claims of a revolutionary democratization of the healthcare system, shot Holmes to Silicon Valley halls of fame. The only problem is that the technology did not work.
The movie made waves online when A24 dropped its first teaser earlier this month, which featured a bizarre, very tense stare-down between Fielder and an unblinking Holmes.
In the newly released full-length trailer, Holmes still claims she did nothing wrong and does not understand how she ended up in her current situation, facing a decade in prison. (Not totally surprising considering that she’s been asking President Trump to commute her sentence.)
“I wish I knew, I don’t know, I don’t feel like I understand that,” Holmes responds to Fielder’s question about how she ended up where she is now.
Fielder also asks Holmes’ husband, luxury hotel chain heir Billy Evans, if he’s worried that she was scamming him when they met in 2017, two years after the accusations against Theranos became a public scandal. Evans says he doesn’t see what she could gain from him, and even after Fielder points out his family’s immense wealth, he responds, “There’s a lot of different levels of wealth.”
You Can See Everything premiered earlier this month in a secret screening at the Telluride Film Festival, and early reviewers are raving about the movie’s strangeness. The movie, with its 174-minute reported runtime, will officially hit theaters on October 16. In the meantime, here’s the intense 2-and-a-half-minute trailer.
