A MakerBot Will Print 3D Dreams All Week at Gizmodo Gallery

We're not just going to be showing off cool gadgets you can buy at Gizmodo Gallery—we're going to be making stuff too. Like real world stuff. The crafty folks at MakerBot Industries have some very special plans for demos that will be going on all week.

The MakerBot has made a huge splash since the company started selling its first 3D printers in 2009. Basically, the compact printer can perform small-scale plastics manufacturing that previously would have required a larger production facility. It can print everything from custom minifigs and other finished products to prototypes for larger projects. All you need to bring is an idea—and the ability to sketch out a plan on your computer. The MakerBot takes care of the rest, putting the means of production right in your garage. Or, say, in your Giz Gallery.

Staff from MakerBot will be on hand Tuesday-Thursday from 4pm-6pm and all day on Friday using the MakerBot to create all sorts of neat 3-D figures. Not even we know know what they've got up their sleeve—they told us it'd be a surprise. And on Friday at 6pm we're hosting artist-maker Micah Ganske who will speak about his experience using the MakerBot to produce art. We're especially excited about Ganske's visit because he's the kind of artist who usually shows in fine art galleries. It's nice of him to stop buy and up our art cred!

Micah Ganske

I might show at fancy-pants fine-art galleries but I'm still nerdy enough to be excited to do stuff with the Giz! I spend way more time reading Gizmodo than any art blog after all.
