A Man-Wolf Rediscovers His Human Side in This Gorgeously Animated Tale

Däwit, a short film from directors David Jansen and Sophie Biesenbach, has won prizes at festivals all around the world, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s one of the most simple, yet visually striking animated films you’ll ever see.

It tells a very grim—mildly NSFW, definitely not for kids—fairy tale about a baby whose mother abandons him as a way to rescue him from an abusive father. After he’s taken in by a pack of wolves, he grows into a feral man who has a rough reentry when he’s jerked back into the human world. Fortunately, he gets some divine (and feline) help when he needs it the most. Most strikingly, the animation looks like a folk-art woodcut come to life.
