Now that Steven Spielberg is adapting Daniel H. Wilson's Robopocalypse, another Wilson book is becoming a movie. Jack Black and Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink have scooped up the rights to How To Survive A Robot Uprising.
Inside sources tell io9 that Wilson's first book, a humorous look at a robot uprising, was originally optioned by Mike Myers, with Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant writing the script and Mike De Luca producing. But as of a year ago, that project was still lingering in the pipeline — and the source says the rights have just been re-acquired by Black and Pink. This could be the Dr. Strangelove of robot uprising movies, the source adds.
It's not clear yet whether Black will star in the film, or whether Pink will direct. So far, Pink is working on the script, and any decisions will be made after he's done. But they both seem like really good people to be involved in bringing the robot revolution to glorious reality. Maybe this film and the more serious Robopocalypse can show as a double feature. We'll let you know when we find out more!
