In the late 1970s, the mining industry dried up at the isolated mountain town of Nichitsu in Japan's Saitama prefecture. Residents began to move away, leaving entire houses filled with possessions to time and the elements. Nichitsu has since become a hotspot for urban exploration. The above video is a tour of the town from late 2009, but know that people are still making the pilgrimage.
At the 9:00 the stuffed doll on the floor was Usagi from the Sailor Moon manga and anime series that came out in the early 1990s, so unless it was left after the family took off, then it was occupied more recently than the 80s that the clip suggested.
And one thing that puzzled me while watching this clip...all this stuff left behind; in the doctor's office, the school, the store, the homes. I have to wonder why all these things were just left behind. Surely the people who previously lived there didn't just walk away.
