Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.’s prequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing has gone from an April 29, 2011 release date to no release date at all. Universal claims the film’s not ready. Sorry, alien head-spider fans.

In other news, Universal is also tabling such hotly experimental projects as the Michael Bay-produced “Ouija” (a movie about a, uh, Ouija board) and the Taylor Lautner Stretch Armstrong film. The studio hopes to get the Ouija flick out by Thanksgiving 2012, and we won’t see Stretch Armstrong until 2013. Still no word on whether we’ll ever see a Crossfire film go into production.
